Depends...growing their own what? I grow my own herbs so that when I use them medicinally or in cooking, I know for sure that they're organic. I don't grow vegetables at the moment because it's a lot of work...and all of the flowers I grow are for medicinal purposes only. rolling on the floor laughing If I have to weed it, it better be something I want to care for, or it goes.

To that end, I've dug up most of the original gardens around my house, and experimented with different herbs for two years now. I'm a novice gardener, but I'm enjoying it. I've discovered how rewarding it is to do all of that work and watch something grow, and how soothing it is to have one's hands in Mother Earth to weed and care for your plants.

I also learned that digging up Peonies is one of the toughest tasks one can do...worse than shrubs. mumbling

Plant basil around your tomatoes, it will keep the tomato bugs away, and it's great to use fresh in your sauce.

Trust me, I am NOT very domesticated. rolling on the floor laughing

You're welcome...it was in one of my books on organic gardening as a natural way to eliminate pests. Companion planting is a subject I found fascinating.

Awesome, Tunekat! You've got a nice variety there! With more help in the garden, I would be willing to do veggies...spinach would be awesome, as it's one of my favorite greens.

Good luck, I hope you find what you seek. I'm already taken...I'm Buzzy's girl now and forever. But best wishes. There are a lot of great women on here, all waiting for a great man to find them. And from what I've seen, you're a great one.

I have had gardens most of my life. I never canned veg's, but I do like freezing many things. I have grown about anything I wanted or my kids wanted me to grow like tomatoes , cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, yellow squash, pumpkins, water melons, cantalopes, okra, sweet corn, cucumbers, radishes, strawberries, cabbage, carrots.

The only thing I had problems with was head lettuce darn it, but I could do cabbage no problem, but the lettuce just couldn't take them heat I guess. I haven't grown any herbs although I have always wanted too.

My husband tilled the garden , I made up the plan on paper how I wanted to place everything to get it all in. Then I did the raking, planting and the watering. My daughter helped me often to pull weeds. But mostly I just cut any down with my hoe. I miss having a garden, now that I live in an apartment. But I do have many Houseplants.yay laugh
