cenobite: "...but do you think that someone who has no experience in Government could steer us thru these difficult times.."
Since people keep electing FF into office, nobody from any other party can get any governmental experience, and eventually nobody from any other party will have any knowledge of what it's like to be in government at all.So this argument is basically an argument for keeping Fianna Fail in power in perpetuity. Fine Gael and Labour may not be particularly less incompetent than Fianna Fail, but I think what is clear is that Fianna Fail are far too cosy with the Powers-that-be and vested interests.Bankers,Financiers,Developers..they always get a warm welcome with FF,their interests are always indulged and FF is always reluctant to defy or take on those whom Gene Kerrigan call the "people Who Matter" and it's been that way since Haughey's day. Continuity eh,? Keep on the same people who ran the Celtic Tiger into the ground so they can make the depression even worse. The monkeys in the zoo would be preferable to Cowen and Lenihan.
Some of this problem is a fall out of the Global credit crunch. But there is no way that it is entirly that. The bankers/builders/Govt together build a ponzy scheme and called it an economic boom. Now they have to pay the price.
The Irish economy has been mismanaged for years and any student economics could have pointed out that.
To change the Govt now would be counter productive instead Ireland should now go back to the drawing board and put togther a plan for getting us on a steady growth path. If well managed we could get back to YOY of 4% GDP growth in a couple of years.

my point being that we need that money for the people....not that we are likely to see much of it...seems it waz as invisible as the emperors new clothes!
Id like to see the guys responsible in handcuffs and their assets seized in the same way as the bureau went after the gang lords.
Cowen is no "fall guy", he was the finance minister during most of Bertie's time as Taoiseach. It wasn't like her show up on the steps of Leinster Housem like a stray kitten the day bfore Bertie resigned!
