In truth, online discussions have seen the complete disintegration of manners. Common decent politeness is seen as giving in to political pressure or else as toadying to receive some imagined benefit or other. Arguments go around and around in circles as no one gives way for fear of losing face. Ground lost or won is immediately forgotten with new opponents joining the fray. Only the determined bother to continue; the rest grow weary and withdraw to their real lives and who would blame them.
