I just want to say well done to the German government and people for welcoming refugees.

By providing temporary dwellings in their parks and public spaces they are truly an example to us all.

Come on rural Ireland, we can accommodate one Syrian family in every large rural town, and the good people of Dublin could easily look after fifty thousand refugees or more in it's unused buildings and public areas.

Let us all work together to give these people a safe place to live and prosper.

thumbs up

No answer serious. How many Syrian or other families are you prepared to let stay in your home?

As I stated in the OP, my local community in rural Kildare could easily support one Syrian family.

Third time lucky (hopefully you'll answer driectly]...

How many Syrian families ARE YOU prepared to re home. Not some community group, not your neighbour or his granny... YOU? Are you prepared to £put yourself£ out and let a Syrian refugee sleep in your bed and you on the sofa?

I have more than one bed so the sofa situation wouldn't arise, and it would depend on what she looks like.

But it wouldn't be fair on the refugee family to have to move into someone's home.

So the real answer is "no you wouldn't" put a Syrian family up.

No, my answer is that it would be better for a Syrian family to have their own space, their own accommodation.

I would have no problem and I have already made a contribution to helping the refugees.

If Germany can accommodate a million, and we are looking at a possible 3 million refugees, then we can do our bit too.

Oh and by the way, a large country like Britain needs to do more.

The reality is that it will be hard to work out who exactly is the Syrian seeing as most of them are carrying no documents to say who they are or where they came from.

Undoubtedly there are some characters who have taken advantage of the situation to make a better life in the West, but the vast majority are genuine asylum seekers and deserve our help.

Just a note on those saying we cannot house refugees. Did you know that in total, the Census revealed that there were 289,451 vacant properties (14.5% of total stock)? 59,395 were holiday homes. In any ordinary housing market, approximately six percent of properties would be expected to be vacant (120,000 in the Irish case), meaning that oversupply is about 110,000! We don;t have too few houses, we have actually too many. We have loads of bloody houses!

David McWilliams.

So come on Ireland we can house these refugees, no excuses. ireland

Refugee crisis: Germany brings in border controls

"All trains between Austria and Bavaria, the principal conduit through which 450,000 refugees have arrived in Germany this year, ceased at 5pm Berlin time on Sunday. Only EU citizens and others with valid documents were allowed to pass through Germany’s borders, De Maizière said."

Blows your arugement out of the water Stan. Piece of advice stop jumping on namby pamby politically correct POV's for the optics.

Nope it doesn't blow my argument out of the water. Germany and the German people deserve credit for the way they have handled the crisis. The controls are being put in place to ensure other countries contribute to the humanitarian effort. thumbs up

Bollicks. They've halted Schengen and France are seriously considering doing the same with crisis at Calais.
