Someone I know is migrating to Canada along with his family. He was initially interested in going to Toronto but lately heard that the weather in Vancouver is more 'friendly' for want of a better word.

So I am looking for information on Vancouver in terms of housing, employment opportunities, weather (ofcourse!!), average travel time from home to work, warmth of people, and anything else you think would help.

Please don't tell me to 'google' it coz I already have. I would like information from the ground rather than touristy stuff hanging in the air.

So please, any inputs would be welcome.

Thanks for your time and inputs in advance.

Well, weather here is fairly mild, however we do get a lot of rain during the year. And some people do get depressed by it.

Housing in Vancouver is expensive, whether you're buying or renting. There are always employment opportunities, it depends what kind of field your friend is in.

Most people are pretty friendly. The nice thing about Vancouver is that it is fairly easy to get around by transit.

I hope this helps a little.

Thanks Laff.
Yes, I've heard about the rains but understand that it helps wash away the snow, so shovelling skills are not mandatory - is that true?
How expensive is rental housing? Would Cdn 800-1000 per month be about right for a 3BR?

That would maybe get you a one bedroom. You're looking at $1500 up for more bedrooms. You may get cheaper rents outside of Vancouver

Here in B.C. it rains so bloody much here, the politicians are considering changing the provincial flower to mold
