Retirement is a milestone in life. Freedom from the work environment allows time to be use for our own pleasure. Singles in retirement can have a hard time connecting with others outside a senior center. So if you are in retirement and still have some living to do, post away. For people who are retired or about to retire....
Busy busy busy
I've been retired 3 years .It's a big adjustment having worked all my life . When I worked I used think how I'd love to have time to do all the things I couldn't get to do because mainly as a nurse it was shift work so irregular hours meant I could rarely get to do courses or classes except for short periods .I enjoy being free to attend art writing gardening groups. What i don't understand is people saying I've been so busy since I retired some end up doing a new job 5 days a week . What's the point in retiring if you cannot enjoy the freedom that retirement brings ? . I've spoken to few men off dating site tell me they working even weekends and they are retired .Why? Can people not adjust to being free of work ? The way I see it is I think I've the freedom I had as a teenager to read books garden yoga or just dance to my favourite music and sit in my garden have breakfast on sunny days in summer . It would be nice to meet someone but I've given up on looking . For me looking on dating sites is far from ideal .People lie terribly ......men will say what they think you want to hear ......yes I like swimming yes I love art .....yes I like cycling all lies its so depressing I don't bother trying and its actually a relief. Think its best to meet a person in the old fashioned way socially as friends. .that's why this site is good because you can just do quizzes forums etc exchange ideas . Even retired people can chat share our experience of retirement.RE: New Here

retirement has good things and not so good things going for it.your time is your own but you can have too much time sometimes.a sense of purpose is sometimes difficult to achieve and one must stay on the lookout for interesting life choices. if you are single it can get lonely.hopefully you can find close friends.it's certainly a new phase of life.RE: Wiser People - Aged

Hello, my name is Donald, I am 63 and have been retired for 8 yrs. and I haven't been bored one single day. If anything I can't find enough time to do all the things I would like to do.Wiser People - Aged
Retirement doesn't have to mean that its the end of the world, I have been doing more since I was retired by our nice governments at the age of sixty, now heading towards 65 in a couple of months.I spend a great deal of time with forces charity, Honour Our Troops Charity Number 1135829, and with friends I create charity walks for the charity. Have completed a 500 mile walk that took plain January 2010, now in the stages of organising another 500 mile walk for charity.
I also spend time online helping others who does have internet access to find work, join social networks. I am currently designing my own social network.
I'm not online all the time, I do out and about locally of course.
So my question is; why do we give up when we retire?
As you can see, I haven't.

Check out the latest AARP magazine article where they rate the best places to retire in the WORLD. Number One is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! I've lived and worked here for more than 10 years, and as a tranplanted Canuck, I've never wanted to be anywhere else. Keep a Canadian address (I use my son's) for income tax, credit cards, etc. and you don't lose any benefits like CPP or OAS. But be sure you go back to Canada twice a year so you don't lose your health care. Anyway, here's the link to the article:Buen suerte!

In August I went to a singles' gathering at Wisconsin Dells. It was great fun!!Wisconsin Dells is a active little tourist community.
The people I met were just the greatest!!!!

The weather around Barrie and Toronto has been cool, wet anddisappointing this summer also. There was a concert in August
called RockStock just outside Barrie and at least the weather
was good for that. Beautiful weather,many bands,lots of encores
and No major trouble. Excellent!

Hi there,I highly recommend the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia!! I would love to move permanently to the southern end. Right now I just spend the six months of winter there.
It's just cold enough to give you a little Canadian winter from early December until the end of January....and not wet like the west coast.

I believe if you retire outside of Canada you will lose your health care.You can also lose the Old Age Pension. So unless you are independently wealthy you pretty much have to stay in Canada. So with that being said I vote for Windsor, Ontario:
The most southern location in Canada; more so than much of the US
Access to United States in a few minutes for concerts, baseball, football games
4 changes of climate but winters are not harsh
World class casino with a 5000 seat theater
Walking trails, bike trails
Waterfront that is parkland with no buildings to obstruct the view.
Close proximity to Pelee Island, Point Pelee, Rondeau, The Pinery, Lake Erie beaches
Many shopping areas located all over Windsor; Devonshire Mall, Tecumseh Mall, Ottawa St., Erie St., Walker Rd., Crossings Outlet Mall and many more.
We have one of the most beautiful rides along the water from the Ambassador Bridge to Detroit, all the way to Belle River.
And the main reason is I live here!!! lol
Where is the best place to retire?
So who knows where the best place to retire is?Location is always important and this may be determined
by where your friends and family are. I think now that a
lot of people are travelling so much after retiring, that
this may not be quite so important. So what other things are
important? Climate...We all like good weather,but if someone
is an avid artist they may want the changes of the seasons.
Health care is a big issue these days as we get older we need
better facilities, access to specialists,etc. If we like to
stay active as part of this health care we may want to be near
biking,hiking,canoeing and other outdoor activities. Other
things that may be important are bus,rail and other transportation if we don't drive or perfer not to.
So taking a whole raft of things into consideration should
we retire in Scottsville Arizona,Florida,Windsor Ontario,
Las Vegas, Cancum, San Francisco. I challenge all that read
this,retired,retiring or not likely to retire for a long time,
give me an exact City or area and tell me why someone should
retire there. Is it the climate,costs,facilities,scenery
or just your impression?

Welcome...Yes it's very true...we finally have time to be involved in all the things we wanted to do but couldn't because of other responsibilities.

Recently retired and people say I look 5 years younger.Doing yourworking career it often ties you down so you can't pursue your
real interests and hobbies. I hope to be more community and
politically active. The baby boomers have always carried a lot
of marketing weight and hopefully we can help turn this planet
around environmentally as we now have the time to get involed.
Very glad to be part of such a large Lobby and concientious group.

The weather here has been a real disappointment, but I have been to a couple of music festivals, the best being at a performance by the legendary Chubby Checker.

Even though I am on a few social networking sites, the best bet is to keep active at the things you love. The more things you do, the more active you are, the more opportunities you'll have to meet new people.I feel like a fish out of water in Tennessee after spending a lifetime in the liberal blue north, but I have found friends here, good friends. Not that special someone, at least not yet. Admittedly it is tougher if you are away for half the year, but being active and social is still the best way to meet, well, everybody.

I know that this is probably an old question, re-hashed many times...BUT... Where do you go to meet new people in general, and a male friend in particular?I'm quite active.....go to a lot of things (concerts in the park, lectures, stroll along the marina, etc.)
I have the added problem of only being home for six months and then away for the winter. Both places are small towns.
Any interesting ideas out there???

Such a difficult question to answer!!My second husband & I lived together for about five years before we married. When he died, it made the legal stuff easier.
I've been on my own now for six years, done some casual dating, and at this point in time, I think that I'd like a steady fellow who also wants to keep his independence by having his own residence.
Of course, nothing is written in stone....especially at my age!! LOLOL.

Hi there!!At this point in my life, I summer in n/w Ontario, Canada and spend the winters in the southern Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. They still get a wee bit of winter, but not the extended cold & snow of the n/w.
