Retirement is a milestone in life. Freedom from the work environment allows time to be use for our own pleasure. Singles in retirement can have a hard time connecting with others outside a senior center. So if you are in retirement and still have some living to do, post away. For people who are retired or about to retire....

RE: The Retirement Logo

We could change the logo to a blank screen... No one seems to post in this Retired Group.... Seem like a waste. This will probably be my last time checking it out! Groups are useless if not used.

I am an old fashion type of guy who believes in marriage. Once I find the right lady I hope she will agree to living within a marriage with me.

RE: Warmer climate

Today I went out fishing in the Gulf of Mexico with a couple of friends off of Cat Island. We hit into a school of trout and in less than an hour we had 45 trout in the boat plus some other fish like mackerel. We had wonderful weather. Smooth boating. Good friendship and fantastic fishing. Guess what I had for supper tonight---trout! I hope your warm weather climate location is as great as the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

RE: Warmer climate

HI from Australia
When it is winter in the north is is summer here so we are complaining about the heat while you are complaining about the cold. Just recently we had flooding rains!

RE: Warmer climate

I moved from southern California to Ocean Springs Mississippi. It is a little (17,000) community on the Gulf of Mexico. We have a nice little white sand beach that is part of the 28 miles of beautiful white sand beaches on the Mississippi coast line. Ocean Springs is an artist community with a wonderful downtown area that is a walking area. It is full of museums, art shops, pottery shops, restaurants and no, I repeat, no crime. There are dozens of golf courses within a few miles of here. Across the bridge (2 miles) Biloxi has 13 casinos that have all the entertainment, night life, and restaurants that come with them. The southern people are friendly. Life is slow and peaceful.

I enjoy a ship without a rudder! The Thread will go where the members want it to wander and zip around in circles sometimes. That is okay with me.

RE: LeaderOf This Group

Why does the group need a leader? Seems to me all can contribute.

Been Three Years...

I quit working three years ago and moved from California to Mississippi to enjoy being close to family. I use this place as a home base to travel. In June I am heading out on a 3 or 4 month RV trip across the northern USA and southern Canada. Then I am heading to Ireland to see the green fields and then on to Argentina to see the Iguazu Falls.

On the Mississippi Gulf Coast I go fishing once or twice a week for trout mainly. I play golf a few times a week.

Retirement has been great. I volunteer every week at the local soup kitchen and I am a Boy Scout Assistant Scoutmaster.

I just don't know how I ever had time to work and have a life!

I own a business, but never go into it. My son runs it for me.

RE: Warmer climate

I reside in Florida, but moved here for a promotion when I was working. Since I retired, I enjoy the weather even more. I golf, sail, and play tennis all year round.

LeaderOf This Group

Hi Everyone,

The leader of this group has left and I have been asked to take it over because I was the first to join.

Would any one of you like to be the group leader?

Please let me know asap.

Also would anyone like to start a new thread for this group?

RE: Relationship Preference

Would you sign a contract first....for a year, for two years?

So what if it isn't going anywhere. If you enjoy each others company, does it make a difference....unless that is, you are looking for someone permanent. I would love to have a friend like that.

Relationship Preference

I did this and it was great at the beginning but I stayed to long. However, next time I would put a maximum time limit on this type of relationship if I were to do it again. No more than a year or two. If closeness doesn't develop in a year, more than likely it never will.

RE: Relationship Preference

At this stage of my life, I would prefer the commitment offered by a formal marriage. I want to know that someone gives a hoot whether I wake up in the morning and will be with me, through thick and thin. And I also need to be needed too, unfortunately. I love caring for someone ... not necessarily catering to every desire, but I actually enjoy making someone happy! I'm not interested in anyone who, at the hint of a quibble, does not want to spend the time to work it out before walking away. There. I've said it. Fire away folks!

RE: Warmer climate

We have down under very warm weather in Summertime.
The hottest i have experienced was 48 degrees and i was working in it at the time. Had to wear cotton long sleeved blouse, pants and of course a hat otherwise one would get fried.
I have also experienced 40 plus degrees and driven to a little town south 5 hours away and the temperature at 8am was minus 15 degrees.
This is called the harsh country for its exteme temperatures, fires, cyclones in the North, sand storms and on the occasion earthquakes.
We also have the most poisonous snake The Western Tiapan, and the most poisonous spider The Funnel Web in the world according to the experts.
Come on down.....great place to liveyay banana rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Age!!

I went back to school at 47 -- earned my BA and and MA -- best thing I ever did. I've had four traumatic events (one was escaping from my burning home) and the trip of a lifetime (South America)in the past 12 years. My savings were blown by the high cost of health care for aging parents and the afore mentioned traumas...I find myself at 59 in the midst of an odd karma and amazing opportunity, and am about to dive into a new business that offers a healthy mix of creativity, monetary rewards and the opportunity to make still another mark with my life while still pacing myself physically. I volunteer (a lot) and mentor college age granddaughters and a grandson who who has found in niche in music. Every time I slow down, something else comes along to challenge me. And I respond. The single thread, though, that keeps me alert and alive are the myriad opportunities -- formal and informal, large and small -- for lifelong learning. If you listen to that little voice inside, you'll pick the right paths and pace. And with that comes peace.

RE: Warmer climate

Serendipity brought me to a very affordable Tennessee. Virtually no snow in Middle Tennessee (I miss that), and the summers have some unbearably humid heat (two years ago we had TWO MONTHS of 100+ temps). And we have tornado seasons (spring and fall). East Tennessee has mountains, west Tennessee had Land Between the Lakes (a favorite of mine). My New England clothes are too warm for all but the chilliest winter days (it's rarely below 20 degrees here. I miss the sheer volume of arts and cultural events from my native N.E., and its annoying to have to travel to Nashville for a symphony. Our hometown regional theatre does a credible job, but its not the same as NYC or the touring productions.

But then, the Gulf coast has its hurricanes, the west coast has its fires and earthquakes, the midwest has tornadoes and upper midwest has blizzards ... you just have to figure what matters to you and follow that.

Age!!

Hey Smokey,
To due choices i made at 53 i had nothing and had to start again. Was not a good place to be and unfortunatley due to physical problem was unable to return to work...i use my brain instead now and returned to study...that might give me a new area in which to at least get some casual or part time work....other than that it's a day at a time proposition for all of us and yes we have all got different routes to travel through life. Hope Your path is peaceful at last.

RE: Relationship Preference

Good afternoon everyone!

I don't believe in that "living in sin" concept. It seems too much like living by other people's beliefs.

I am not an "occasional" dater and am not interested in playing the field.

Perhaps if I met THE right person, I might be tempted, but I like the idea of an exclusive relationship that still allows each person time to themselves, time to indulge in activities that might not be shared by their significant other (I love art, hates sports -- but would begrudge someone their ballgames or fishing trips -- I like fishing, though. As a writer I need a percentage of alone time to pursue that craft and to simply think. It's the nature of the writer beast to be occasionally reclusive.

My own beliefs include not condemning anyone for their personal choice; if they choose to marry, great. If not, great.
