You're always on my mind. I know I left you behind for acts of selfish bliss. Now there's a void in me, a hole in which you can't see the darkening abyss.
I've come to know you've always been my greatest friend. From within my soul, looked in your eyes and said that I would be there for you 'til the very end. But strayed and sinned, Now I've made amends.
See what we can create? Three precious gifts that my fate has seemed to limit me. The years are flying by. It brings a tear to my eye, progression I don't see.
I've come to learn I'm missing the best parts of me. Wheels fail to turn. My incompletion pulls me down toward the ground. I'll fall eventually. Was flying free, But found gravity.
So are you happy now? I just don't understand how I'm easily replaced. If I don't take a stand, resolve the matters at hand, I'm sure I'll be erased.
Although you've moved on, you'll always be my greatest friend. I hate that you're gone. Look in my eyes and know that I Will always be here 'til the very end. These words I send To my greatest friend.

About this poem:
This was actually a song I wrote to my ex wife. It explains how I realized later that I made a mistake after breaking it off with her for selfish reasons. We had three kids together, and they stayed with her after our split. The song tells how much I've missed out on in their lives from not being with them all the time. You miss a lot just being a weekend and holiday dad. Near the end of the song it shows how she moved on with her life and how I felt that we were done for good. One thing that we've kept through all of it though is our friendship, and we still remain best friends to this day. :)

Thank you Arteee. It may look good now as a poem, but once I get everything done and make it into the song that I hear in my head, I'm sure people will like it much better. A promise to all on CS:
I will post the song on here when it is finally done.

Rick, our experiences parallel one another in some respects... I too have 3 beautiful children, but in my situation, their mother was less than kind in turning them against me through her selfish influences to support her own erring choices in abandoning me and our 24 year marriage. Fortunately for me, my youngest (now almost 18) has decided to re-establish contact with me and we are now re-growing our love for one another. It's awesome!!! It's been over 6 years since I've seen my other two! I love them so much!! A touching poem for someone that can relate quite well with it's message and pain!!! Thanks for sharing this!! Treasure the friendship that you have with her!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation buddy. It's a great thing that you are at least getting the chance to rebuild your relationship with your youngest. I'm sure in time the other two will realize, no matter how old they are, that they still need their Daddy. Maybe your ex wife will come to her senses too and realize what an awful thing she is doing by having them neglect you like that. You never know, man. The good Lord works in mysterious ways. I'll be praying for ya bud. I don't need your name, He'll know who I'm talking about. I can see it right now-- your 18yr old will end up talking the other two into visiting you with her and it will build from there. Sometimes it's the YOUNG ones that set good the examples.
Take it easy bud. Good luck and Godspeed in finding you a good woman this time!
Sometimes it takes a loss to realize what we had. I look forward to hearing this someday as a song.
