Evergreen

Autumn comes and leaves fall to the ground,
Scattered to the wind, year upon year,
Just like people they come and go,
There can be no delay to the perfection of the equinox.

There aren’t many photos of me,
Almost as if I wasn’t here at all,
When I was younger I foolishly would believe,
That I could move through life,
And not touch anyone,
Leave no mark on the world,
Observe without influence.

Now that I am older, I understand,
That it’s not possible,
In just the same way that science has shown,
Schrodinger’s poor cat never stood a chance,
I had to know and…… I had to be.

But if we just shift a little we can see,
That it is possible, in a manor,
Do as we will and try as we might,
We won’t change fate and it’s likely,
We’ll not be remembered,
In a hundred years who will care?
In a thousand, who will know?

There is no autumn here, only the heat day after day,
But for all the warmth, I feel so cold,
Surrounded by millions, I am alone,
Time and season stand still,
I have to remind myself that back home,
The leaves in April succumb to gravity,
And drift back toward earth,
To become one with her again.

This bed as wide as the sea,
I sleep and dream and see your face,
And wish you were swimming in it with me,
It’s easy to forget that our time is brief,
Everyday we’re still going to perish,
So hard to know if there is a right way,
And to worry upon it is our vexation.

If we open our hearts we can save ourselves,
From the paralysis of eternal procrastination,
Our Autumn will come and we shall be scattered to the wind,
It is best to know that we are deciduous,
Like the leaves in April,
And that only our love can be evergreen.

Yes Rubicon, sometimes in the confine of our own little world, we keep it to us for whatever its worth. No matter what the direction of the world is, we are on our own way. This is so true and I have been there so many times.

I like most the part where you captured the alluring and perpetual longing. "This bed as wide as the sea, I sleep and dream and see your face, And wish you were swimming in it with me." The aloneness sometimes that we bury ourselves with is the very cure that heal us someitmes. Thanks for sharing..

Hi, Rubicon76,
...we are deciduous...only our love can be evergreen. It's nice to think of love as having such staying power.

I loved this your poem we are all the same but in different forms, but go back to the one form in the end. We can and do make a shift in whatever we do all of life has a knock on effect. No ryhmn or reason to be in this form at this time so we better make the best of it and try to prove our nock on effect is a good one.thumbs up

Thanks for your comment Redex. You are spot on. I appreciate that you spent the time to disseminate some of the themes I tried to express.

Hi Rubi ..nice poem... it's wonderful to know you have shifted your perception of people are like an autumn who only come and go to our lives. But despite of it we still deserve to have one person to be with permanently who makes our day evergreen..wine cheers hug
Rubicon76
Yes, that's exactly right. Very succinctly put young lady.
Thank you for your comment.

Dunno if this is our choice or just fate..
Rubicon76
I don't really subscribe to 'fate' as a real force in my life. I know alot of people do.

I believe I have about 20% control of what happens to me (maybe less) and about 80% is the result of circumstance. i.e. chance.
