Not Very Far

Sometimes life can bring me down
Things just don't seem to go my way
And I wonder what I ever did
To deserve a day like today
But then I look up at the sky so red
As the sun sets across the bay
Or watch the rain dripping through the weeping willow
And I could hardly wait for another day
For with it's sorrows, life brings many joys
And beautiful wonders to behold
It seems this wanting to live forever
Is much more precious than silver of gold
But while we are lamenting the shortcomings of life
There's always happiness passing us by
And we choose, instead, to dwell on the unhappiness
Maybe we should stop and wonder why
Too much seems to be taken for granted...
The green of the grass, the beauty of snow flakes
The roar of the river as it runs downstream
And the babbling noise the little brook makes
These are all things meant to make us happy
And most of them in our own back yard
So the next time I am looking for something to cheer me up
I'll remember, I really don't have to look very far.
