The World of Today.

Remember the old days, the peace and the quite,
Old folks could wander freely, in day and by night,
Late into the evening without fear they would walk,
Through any park they went, and about life they would talk.

Always nice and peaceful, no bush drinkers at all,
Tress stood proudly, flowers blossomed by the wall,
Our neighbours were helpful, and would always share,
To find a stranger on your street, now that was very rare.

No playstations or internets, always early to bed,
First duty in the morning, fetch the milk and bread,
Stepped out of line and you got lashed by a belt,
I aint joking, the damn thing it felt.

Your door was always open, as a friend be sure to appear,
You didnt mind the locks been off, you lived without any fear,
Children were oh so lively, and always on the go,
Running happily all day, and refusing to slow.

But as years pass us by, things seem to get worse,
Its common to steal, and seems okay to curse,
Long ago it was tough, with World Wars One and Two,
Today we dont know whos fighting, not a bloody clue.

Not much play on our streets, to many cars fly by,
Nearly everyday on our roads, a person seems to die,
You cant swim in the local canals, they filthy with poloution,
All our crazy technolaghy and still no bloody soloution.

With global terrorism, we are all now living in fear,
And see our politicians, they dont bloody care,
Murder used to be a big thing, now its everyday,
No one seems to get punished, you wonder maybe its okay.

Politicians then will say, 'ah, things are getting better,
Then you meet a friend, crying over an eviction letter,
Once I thought that it was only the old folk who would die,
Now Im hearing stories of old school mates passing by.

What has happened to youth, and what do they bloody think,
Why for them that the answer is turning to th drink,
Searching for the answers at the end of a pint glass,
Then well into the night, they found lying across the grass.

Our world is full of booze, leads to cannabis then LSD,
Eventually speed and coke, then the dangerous ecstasy,
Young girls with their lives in ruins, now babies in cradle,
Going mad and loosing their heads, cause their mentally not able.

Moaning around on weekdays, deep on depression,
Then arrives the weekend, yes, another drinking session,
Cant take this life anymore, some will get up and flee,
Others not so lucky, will give their young life to the sea.

This world for some strange reason, has become so bloody wrong,
Days filled with satadness and fear, making them so long,
What the hell will happen in only a few more years,
Thinking of this as a future, I want to cry some tears.

Sure what ever is on the horizon, may we all meet up in heaven,
Im to old now, and as for pints I can only manage seven,
Only hope is fingers crossed, and to God I will pray,
And when my time is up, it be old Ireland I want to lay.
