A SIGN OF THE TIMES.

I wonder why, we did not care enough to listen,
we’ve been warned of fire and flood.
We’ve witnessed starvation, and world depravation,
and yet, we still stay smug
We’ve knighted Sir Bob, gave a few there a job,
and believed it was all we could do,
and yet, as you play day after day,
the world is running out on you.
The signs where in capitals, red neon were they,
underlined and underscored.
But we chose deviation, and sod creation,
because that is all that we knew.
We’re modern animals, which is just as well,
as the ancient ones are no more.
We believe we can equal the wonders of nature,
we believe we can even the score.
But if we take an honest look up,
to the hole in the sky, balanced by sun factor fifteen,
Do you not worry not even the smallest amount,
at how technology was weaned?
It started with fields, for houses were they,
but clever still we became, we used up a supply of unlimited resources,
and now only a few remain.
We plan for the future, without a thought for tomorrow,
we turn away from the pain,
that can be relayed without hesitation, thanks to communication, again.
Our lives are for living, and living we do, killing wondrous things as we go.
Technology saves us from earning a living,
as many of our jobs it can do,
it’s left us to form filling, and mastering the art, of forming an orderly queue.
If you ignore what we’ve lost, when you add up the cost,
then to move forward, the casualties were few.
We act like the ostrich, and bury our head,
determined not to see the view.
For all that we’re learning, our world it is burning,
and the smoke, it is seen by but a few.
