I ASKED GOD

I asked God for strength that I might achieve;
I was made weak that I might learn to humbly obey.

I asked for health that I might do greater things;
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy in life;
I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power so I might have praise of men;
I receive weakness that I might be in need of God.

I asked for things that I might enjoy my life;
I was given life that I might would enjoy things;

I got nothing I asked for ,
But every thing I hoped for.

Almost, dispite myself,
My unspoken prayers were answered.

I am among all men most richly blessed!

beautifulyou
from what i can see, the internet shows it's the prayer
or poem of an unknown confederate soldier. I like the 5th stanza. Thanks for sharing the poem and welcome rustic rose
