Why do you write poetry? Is it for the recognition? Maybe for the glory, or just to see if someone, somewhere is even listening. Do you make up stories of pure fiction? Or are you just desperate for some attention. Why is it so important to be noticed, to be heard, To be thought of as a voice of reason? Maybe it is just an addiction, like smoking or drinking. You can never get enough. Nothing will satisfy the hunger or need. But what is that need that habitually leads, To that feeling of “I have to be seen”, “I have to be read”, “I have to be understood”. But in fact, you do not have a clue as to why you are the brain’s food. So keep writing, keep going within, Making up stories, telling the truth, hurting others and deceiving yourself, And maybe someday you will see, It has just always been about you and your need.
Interesting poem... for some I think it is a way to resolve "unsilved feelings" and epress themselves...Why does the painter paint what he/she sees?... as noone else can... Because they can?
I write poetry because it is too tedious to recite it. yes, it is about my need.

I write poetry for expression, not for glory. Maybe need yeah? With poetry you reach others with the same pain, joy, sorrow. There is giving in poetry too as well as taking. Sharing joy, sorrow and pain is part of healing for everyone. Take care and have a nice day all my friends out there and keep writing
Hi, bluewolf8514, I write because I must. Why post? is another question. It has just always been about you and your need. If something posted amuses, helps, or causes one to think of things from a different perspective, it is worth the risk of posting. At a minimum, it is a connection.

i write to understand what i am feeling, and cope with it.i also enjoy the configuration of my sentences. i like to read others poetry because it stirs emotions in me and sometimes i find some beauty.i post cos you all say nice things-which is comforting..
And to that I would say that it is a bit of both.. poets in my opinion, are usually very open caring people.. and from the good people we have here in the "Poet's corner" I believe this to be true.. so maybe we write for others as well as ourselves.. We are deep thinkers, and always trying to help others through our words? Just my thoughts..
I write because I am moved by the power that others writing has on me.
I want to become that power, that sense in others.
I want to touch people, and myself, on that level that I have been touched.
I want to reproduce the beauty of language and thought, concepts, notions, that I have found personally fulfilling, helpful, and to seek, somehow, those new ideas that will move others as well.
To write is to create...to read is a way to participate in the creation...to bring it into your experience. Thanks for the thought provoking poem bluewolf :)
Poetry to me is a form of therapy. Having a pen in your hand enables you to put your thoughts down on paper, to share your pain and joys with others, to gain respect, to keep your mind active, a daily challenge to keep creativity alive.

Why Don't I Write Poetry?
I would love to put my thoughts on paper in such a way so that people would say what a beautiful writing (poetry)! But I cannot.
I think the reason why people write poetry is because they Can, they Love it, and that is why they Need it in their lives.

(I will rewrite it in a different way. Professional poets, what do you think of my poem? This is my first poem in my life. And English is not my native language)
Why Don't I Write Poetry?
I would love to put my thoughts on paper in such a way So that people would say What a beautiful poetry! But I can not, unfortunately
I think the reason why people write Is because they can and because of love That is why They need it in life

I think the reason why people write
Is because they can and because of love
That is why
They need it in life
and we're very poetry people, people
with an incessant need
to please
so please
hear our pleas
and please us
as we please
please
