RobbieM: Microsoft are acquiring Skype, so it will be interesting it it's absorbed, modified or what they will do to it.
Hopefully they won't wreck the idea, but they didn't buy the company for any other reason than market share.
Well, I hope they will either leave it as is, or tweek it better in some way. My new netbook d/l the latest skype update today and I noticed a FB link on the skype screen. Which means there's an obvious connection, which spells security problems.
Mind you, these days, I work from the premise that someone somewhere, is hacking into my laptop or PC...even I hacked into it the other week, using a friend's hacking disc, as I had to use my PC again, to load a firewire card onto it, and couldn't recall my password...I figure if you can't beat 'em, join 'em I can only imagine how easy it is for a person savvy with IT stuff.
Ccincy: Gee I wonder what people would without the internet and cell phone and all those other mondern thingys.
I guess each generation said that about something, such as washing machines and refridgerators and so on. No-one knew any different, except some people obviously thought about it. As the saying goes, necessity is the father of invention...These days, it's not so much necessity, but the 'just because we can' which drives invention.

How easily would we re-adjust to "landline" telephones, letter writing and "going out to meet people"... A daunting thought that as little as 15 years ago that was the norm... Think about this...How many phone numbers can you recall from memory?... I used to remember 15 or more at the drop of a hat, now its more like 2 or 3...Nuff said!...

I worked with a client who has cerebral palsy. He had a severe speech impediment, was wheelchair bound, partly paralysed... But he was a 'walking' 'phone book!!...Best memory for numbers you'll ever come across.

If you haven't yet watched the film, please do...'Temple Grandin'. She is till alive and won an Oscar(?) for the real life story. A fantastic portrayal of how she beat the odds(as well as 'the system') despite having what is labelled as one of the Austism Spectrum Disorders, though when she was a child of the 50's, it was regarded as a form of childhood schizophrenia! ...but this is getting off topic...(sorry, OP!)
