cashy85: i aint trying to make you feel small, but like i wouldnt want anyone to pass me if i was stuck in the middle of nowhere. when i was driving i had no hassle picking up hitchers, cause at one time i was a hitcher

You're a dude....

Like Cynicalorange said.....

Try and imagine you're a woman...,and then look at it from that angle......

Is not quite the same....

Again, ......Imagine that the woman who might stop to help this random stranger is your daughter.... And....it is a trap..

What would you say then? If something had happened....

GotTrance: Wondering what people would do.

I'd stop and help with a phone call if he was stranded or hurt, but I'd stay in my car and my doors would stay locked.

cashy85: sorry but thats just stupid of course ya could help i just guess ya wasnt brought up to care about your fellow man or woman

10 years ago I probably would have got out of my car straight away to help this guy on the side of the road at night. A few years ago however, I was held up at knifepoint by someone who knocked on my car door. I thought nothing of it. They got in and I still thought nothing of it initially - I kept waiting for them to say - oh wow, sorry, I'm in the wrong car. When nothing bad has happened to you before, you just don't assume the worst straight away.

Sadly, it's not safe to assume that a stranger's intentions are benign ones. There's plenty of help you can provide for a person in this situation and I agree with maryrachelle - usually, it would involve a phone call to emergency services. I'm happy to do that - and even to stay with them until help comes - but I'd stay in my car and my doors would stay locked.
