I have a friend with bipolar and I feel bad for her because its not curable. She envies people that go through cancer but do get cured. These people get such admiration for their battle but she is just judged in a negative way. People that know her for years suddenly change when they find out. I feel she should keep it to herself but she thinks that kind off attitude is why people don't understand it.She is a lovely girl and struggles daily with depression and weight gain from medication but despite this she is the sweetest caring person I know and a great friend.

Afternoon L4Q,
We had a thread recently on this very subject and it raised a few eyebrows.
If people have never experienced dealing with someone with bipolar, they are not in a position to understand it.
They can of course understand cancer because most people at some point in their lives have lost someone through this disease.
Medication can control bipolar to a certain degree, but as yet there IS no cure for cancer.j.m.o.

We all have issues and those that don't think they do, are the worse. If you are worthy, you would walk on water! We are one and if not, in your opinion, you are alone and suffer in this world. jmho
Now I have also friends who have rare diseases and that is definitely worst than cancer or being bipolar because there's even no medication for them....
Hells yeah, the cancer is worse- unlike bipolar, there's really no way to learn to cope with it, not to mention it'd be miserable and perhaps lethal if not detected soon enough. 'course, I'm a bit biased. I already have bipolar and am dealing with it pretty well! XD

That is great. I have Bipolar friends and most of them are either dealing with it, or at least trying to. I was dx'd with Schizophrenia and for the most part been able to deal with it.
As for the original question, I'm not sure what I would choose.

I was diagnosed with a depressive disorder 8 years ago. I have learnt to live with it through a combination of counselling and the correct medication, I will be on medication for the remainder of my life and have no issue with that, if I had diabetes or any other illness I would have to take medication, my depression is no different.
I have only ever met one person who judged me negatively because of my illness and that was his problem not mine.
I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and face months of chemo, radiation and drug treatment, I know which I prefer and its not the cancer.
