Well since you haven't posted an opinion one way or the other, there's nothing to bash. 
But I do agree with you that there is no need or reason to bash on a subject like this. So here is an interesting description of Socialism from a well known European source... Let's see what it says and whether or not the current US Democrat party lines up.
Just so you know, I've temporarily deleted parts of the quote for clarity purposes since the speaker was comparing socialism to liberalism (which was not your question and which no longer applies in our current situation).
I will add them in later, but for now, let's just look at one European's definition of socialism.

First, your poll is flawed in that it can't be answered by a simple YES or NO because it's a 2 part question. Had you stopped after the word American, all would be well but you didn't, you went on to add a second part to the question starting with the word OR.
Maybe the reason people bash your polls is because you don't know how to create a poll?
BTW don't look at this as bashing, but constructive criticism.
