WESTERNSTAR1: A gallon of whole milk weighs 8.63lb per gallon. Water weighs about 8.33 lbs per gallon so milk weighs about 5 ounces more per gallon than water.
But... what price per gallon are ya gettin' from the Creamery?
Don't cry, Westernstar, but, you know, go out, it's Saturday,it's only 10, you're young-ish, it's Christmas, who cares about weights and measures? (ok don't answer that lol)

WESTERNSTAR1: ton of feathers or ton of coal.which is heavier ? gallon of water or gallon of milk which is heavier ?
One gallon is equal to 128 ounces or 4 quarts or 8 pints. Here's an interesting fact: A gallon of milk weighs more than a gallon of water because milk is more dense than water. A gallon of milk weighs about 9 pounds and a gallon of water about 8 pounds, 6 ounces. You never know when you might need that information for a trivia game!
Thanks to all the googlers out there, you know who you are, and free entry tickets to the Young Scientists Exhibition in January are on the way to you..
Back to you Westernstar, can we have the next question please...
It is the additional proteins in milk which provide its increase in density (and therefore weight) over water at ambient temperature and pressure. Of course this changes markedly as one gets further away from these temperatures.
Water is one of the few fluids which actually become less dense as it gets colder and goes through a phase transition meaning that ice will float in liquid water (or milk!).
