ParamaSathya: Why people call it Bullfighting ?
Is that ban really for Bulls ?

Good questions. Bullfighting is the english word, we use another term difficult to translate. But is a real fight in which the man can die, and sometimes happen. The bullfighters are professional.

The ban just is referred to events in which the bulls are killed. There are other type of allowed events in which the bulls persecute people who must dodge the horns. People does it as a tradition.

Thanks wine
Well it seems people use it to show their bravery and audacity.

conversing

once a Sri Lankan King named Seethawaka Rajasinha( Prince Tikiri ) who is a grate warrior and a expert of the "Angampora" martial arts (which was only taught amongst the Sinhala community) had killed a wild Buffalo which attacked humans walking on roads, by himself without using any kind of weapons. This king is well known by the Portuguese people cos he has led a massacre on Portugese Army at Mulleriaya area in Sri Lanka when he was at his age 12. The king killed the Wild Buffalo to protect his people but not as a sport or as a tradition.
Different different cultures has different traditions.
Anyway,at present people play Bull in every part of the world including Sri Lanka not only as a tradition . What do u say Sir ?

laugh cheers

Master Oyama (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mas_Oyama)

[ He was also known for fighting bulls bare-handed. In his lifetime, he battled 52 bulls, three of which were purportedly killed instantly with one strike, earning him the nickname of "Godhand". Many martial artists believe that the bulls he beat were at a disadvantage, because they were tamed and tied with nose rings and rope when Mas Oyama fought them. ]

that is why I say "The intention of a hero is more important than his deed "

Even when is not adequate in your thread I post this video where Oyama fights with bulls.wow

It has nothing to do with bullfight in Spain (which now has many detractors, by the way).

Have they stopped the bullring entirely? or is it just not to the death anymore? The bull run through that little village every year seems much fairer sport....

I thought bull fighting was a traditional sport? and the bull run an annual event? please share some cultural traditions about Spain.

The bullfight is banned in Catalonia where I live, not in the rest of Spain, even when another zones are thinking to make forbidding laws.

The banning includes whatever activity in which the bull can be wounded or killed. In a few places in Spain bulls are killed with lances by horse riders, and this is very criticised.

It's not considered an sport, but a traditional event, but there are other traditions involving bulls, as example these runs. The street leading to the bullring is closed on both sides with wooden fences that allow access to people but not to bulls, to provide shelter.

When the bulls are released one may run some distance, but the bulls are faster so you have to get out of its way.

Many tourists do not know well what to do, and frequently are injured, usually stomped but sometimes wounded by horns, like this:

Try being a vegetarian for a week . See the transformation it brings to your body and the soul . See how non violent you become , see how it changes your views to your inner and outer world, your family and to the nature. I suggest this because I experienced this . If we have a choice between being compassionate or to be cruel ,I believe its better to be compassionate.

handshake I know many dislike the "other bullfight", but there are several styles without harm the animal. I don't go to the bullrings, which have an uncertain future.

Yes , people should entertain themselves as well as the others by showing their bravery without harming anyone. (Boxing Wrestling is OK...cos both parties willing to fight but harming animals cannot be accepted in that way). Good human beings who has a pinch of sense of the others pain , never think about harming others.cheers
