goldengloss: So my paternal Godmother, said what about Rosemary. They baptised me Rosemary. My maternal Grandmother who took me as a baby and reared me thought Rosemary wasnt very nice and changed it to Rosemarie [after the Song Rosemarie I love you] and so thats my name !! I am called Rosie though, I am reasonably happy with my name.
Good decision with Rosemarie imo. I've always liked Marie. Rosemary makes me think of Rosemary's Baby (title of the Polanski horror film), thus bringing up one aspect of naming: avoiding or choosing names based on negative or positive connotations we have of them.
Dragos1: My name came from a friend of my Father, well they were in the military together. While on the ship they saw a man overboard and they flipped a coin to decide who would be the one to save him. My Father won the coin toss and the friend went overboard to save the man that was drowning. In the panic of the drowning man he somehow drowned my Father's friend in his panic. It all happened very fast and by the time anyone else could offer support the man that attempted the rescue was dead. I was given his name at birth in honor of the death of my Father's friend in the Coast Guard. The name I received was the other man's "last" name. I have never met another person with that name. Not as a First name like myself. that's the story.

Ok...mine (like the rest of my tribe..) was a kinda complex ritual.. It involves the submission of all the birth-time line data to a Priest (of our tribe again) who then consults the Oracles, Astrology & Astronomy charts and by the most mystical mathematics know to mankind... arrives to the conclusion that the child's name should start with a certain letter of the alphabet...
And so mine was "T"...and then my folks filled in the rest...in my case, me Dad.... And believe it or not, I have the only such name in the world.... I have Google'd it a million times... and haven't found anything yet on da Net! A few, but with spelling variations though! And haaay...doesn't Google know everything?
So...anyways with this revealing announcement, am considering acquiring a gold scepter ... maybe I'm destined for something greater upon this Earth?
Memo to self - change profile tomorrow... only ladies fit to be a Queen need respond...
