USThumper: The naproxin is good stuff. They had me on it for a while, but changed it cause with prolonged use the naproxin can cause stomach problems
Right it is, I don't take it unless It is a really bad day. I can handle my pain except if I have irritated it or it moves to my other side, my brain isn't prepared for that. So then I need it for sure.

Oh and I have to sleep with my special $60.00 pillow or I would wake up hurting more than before bed.
All I can say , if you have NOT had this kind of pain, then you have no reason to comment, as until you feel this Stabbing, Burning pain, and Sciatia, your coments are just wind, When you have LIVED IT FOR MANY YEARS, then we will talk!
Many have no Idea, but still want to judge those taking meds for Relief,
I had the flesh eating disease 2 yrs ago. My doctor told them to give me meds around the clock every three hours. The nurses were told not to let me ask for it. I could barely sit up, I had visitors and thought I was dreaming when I saw them. Having weird dreams and crap. I could barely sit up, so one day I forced myself to stay awake. When the nurse came, I told her I only wanted it when I asked for it. When I finally came out of the fog, I realized four days had passed after the first surgery. It three surgeries to get rid of it. I was still in pain, but I just did not like not knowing what was going on.
Big_John: I had my surgery four weeks ago and was on pain meds for quite a while. I re-hurt myself and had a second surgery. Without the pain meds life would have been unliveable; however, I slept my life away for several weeks. So I tried to manage the pills by holding off on the dosage until after lunch each day. That way I slept the entire afternoon.
Without the pills I couldn't stand, sit or lay down. It hurt in any position. No way I could have be able to go without the pills.
BINGO------ BINGO, Thats what Im talkin about. Thank you John
Hugz_n_Kissez: Yeahhhhhhh...well I had to have my doctor cut me back on mine to two times a day because all I was doing was sleeping too and my kids were only...and I had to be awake...but I also had to have the pills to cope with the pain...and get the inflamation to go down cause my disc was sitting on my siotic nerve..and severe pain makes me sick to my stomach....

John, your last two sentences describes how I have lived for 14 yrs. and fell off a bridge 4 yrs ago, you decide how I feel.
The struggle I have Lived through, and it isnt going to ever get any better they say, maybe worst, but not better!
rasgumby: Do you mean 800mg at one time? thats a heck of a lot.especially if taken with other pain meds.
how did you hurt your neck?
From a couple falls on Ice. But I also had some damage I believe before from when I was younger and my mom sat on my back and yanked my head back and then slammed it into the floor about 50 times till I blacked out.
I looked at my medicine it is a 500mg all in one tablet , the Motrin I used to take are 800mg. That is what it takes to do any good. Well the only other pain med is a ocassional muscle relaxer but I don't take either one except a few times a week. I don't want to get too used to them , they are the only thing that helps.
I hurt my back about a week and a half ago. It started on a wednesday and by that sunday I couldn't walk. So off to the emergency room my daughter took me. They pumped me full of dilaudin, some other kind of pain killer, and flexeril. That day I was greatful to be stoned out of my mind. But after that, I dealt with the pain, taking only the flexeril and aleve until bedtime and then took the percocet to get through the night. I could lay down or stand up. I couldn't sit for days. Even sitting here right now, I still have some pain but haven't take anything today. When you have small kids to take care of, it really doesn't matter how much you hurt, their welfare comes first. At least to me it does.
Big_John: Constant pain is horrible. My wife lived in constant pain for over 20 years before she died.
Thank God I havent had anything that serious..Thats just it, some people have such severe pain that no surgery or pain meds work. short of knocking them completely out. I just can't imagine.
Personally, pain meds that take the edge off, but don't leave me stoned. I'll meditate and use reflexology and herbs to deal with the rest of it.
Yes, thanks to my dance and martial arts training, I can zone the pain out on my own. I live with fibromyalgia and myofacial pain syndrome without any pain meds, even on bad days, and don't even keep Tylenol or Advil (or any generic form of them) in the house.

Hopefully it is something that will heal soon without any surgery

This is true...and I agree, Ras, thankfully I've never had anything that serious. When I have had severe pain, like before my gallbladder surgery, I've opted for whatever they could give me...but that's not chronic pain, it was acute. Chronic, I'd find a therapy course that worked for me without knocking me completely out if I could. But I do understand, and sympathize with, those who have so much pain that narcotics are the only option.

You're lucky you can take those. You should see the fun doctors have trying to figure out how to relieve acute severe pain in me...I'm allergic to all morphine derivatives...Dilaudid and Percocet are two meds I can't take. Darvocet, though, I can take...or straight Darvon. Codeine, btw, is a morphine derivative...and they're all related to heroin, as all are natural opiates. I can't have any natural ones, only synthetics, like Darvon.

But I live it daily, I wake up, it is there, I sit down,Hurts, go to bed Hurts, feed the dog hurts, everything is a strruggle as well as hurting, and yes it starts working psycologically, stress, ect. Just to let you know, I KNOW ! But i still wake up and do it over every day, and try to smile, have to look to God for strength, and make silly comments on the Forums, to keep a smile, Making others laugh and smile inside, is the only relief I get
Oh I forgot a few months ago my doctor wanted me to try Neurontin for my nerve pain, that crap is also a antiphsychotic and it really makes you messed up. The first one had me falling out of my chair and the whole room spinning. So next dosage I tried for at bedtime the next day. Ugh no way. I couldn't take them they made me very sick.

Fortunately I'll never need surgery, so they say. Unfortunately it's apparently being caused by arthritis in my lumbar spine and both hips. Don't you just love getting older!

All I can say is.. I have worked around hundreds of really old folks in the nursing home.. and I sure as hell do not look forwards to my 80s + years. but with the given choices..
I would rather live to 100 than to not be living I think

My girlfriend was with me at my next doctor appt. when I told my doctor what the pills did to me my friend spoke and said, well you aren't supposed to drink with them. Omg she was being onnery and I had to explain that I wasn't doing that, he said I figured she was being naughty. I got teased pretty good that day .

I think my job finished the job, but no, the pain started a couple of days before I ran any calls that would have caused that kind of pain. The weather had been damp and rainy when the pain started. The doctor said the last call I ran on that friday where I had to strandle the stretcher for the 40 min. ride into the hospital tending to a 3 year old with an eye injury probably just put me over the edge.

I bet yours is just muscles strained, that hurts bad too, and does take some time to heal. Hopefully you will be well soon.
