RDM59: Yes, for single parents it is extra hard. There are so many other peoples lifes to consider. My question was though, if after you have a LDR by internet you said he would need to visit you first, then you would consider going back to his country. How long does it take to be with someone to decide this ? I would imagine the visit would only be for a matter of a few week ?

Hard experience has taught me to never consider it a RELATIONSHIP until AFTER you meet and even then you never really KNOW a person, till you've spent some time with them. You can have the phone calls, the e-mails, etc...but until you meet them face to face you never truly know and even then sometimes you still don't really know. Trust me I have LOTS of experience with all that can go wrong. Still there are people who get it right and are living testimony that it can work. I'm practical, a week's visit(if time permits)gives you at least a bigger picture, I know people have jobs and kids to get back to. Its a start, but you've got to REALLY, REALLY be willing to work through the issues and feel in your heart that this is 'it'. Better to try and fail than fail to try.grin

It probably is. But even local can be just as screwed up as international. It just makes it a shorter time to wait for your disappointment, if it does not work out. Most people would like to find someone in their backyard, I did and what a disaster that was. If you're on an INTERNATIONAL dating site, you keep ALL your options open. You never know when, how, where, or with whom. Can't be close minded, in any case as we like to say out here "What is for you is for you."cool

We say similarly " What is for you won't go past you ".
For sure local relationships can fail but you will have had much more of a chance getting know one another first on many dates and weekends together before you may finally decide, yes I can love you, lets move in together or perhaps get married.( you know the routine ) You can't ( or I can't ) commit to all that without having got to know someone physically as well as mentally. For me this is important, the chemistry and the passion. You can't establish this on the internet.

whiteknight49: Long distance relationships. Would you travel thousands of miles to be with the one you thought was right for you? I have. Unfortunatly it did not work out for me. How ever i did fly over 3000 miles to try to make it work, and it did for nearly 2 years. Today i have a great friend in her,and we still talk every day....But as friends. I am greatful for the times we had.

I would travel thousands of miles, but I would have to be somewhat certain we are suited for each other. I think the man should be the one to make the first move though. Long distance relationships are rough though. I never really believed I could get to like somebody on the site. But it is happening to me.

I wouldn't travel thousands of miles if I thought I found my ideal match. conversing I would have to be absolutely sure that my match has found me.

Zellarrone1: Only if I had more money than sense

However, at this point in my life I've more sense than money so the answer is definitely no

I hear you, and that would be my answer, if it was only to go and meet someone.

But, as it is, I'm planning an European vacation, so I will be traveling thousands of miles anyway... While in Europe, I hope I can meet some of the wonderful people of CS that reside in Europe, their spouses or significant others as well, and maybe, maybe a significant other for me.

But the main reason for the trip is tourism in the regular way, no love-tourism... Although I hear there's a Singles Fest in Ireland every year? Maybe I can plan my trip around that...
