I'm in the Army National Guard and could be deployed at anytime. I think it's VERY arrogant to compare the current wars with the Vietnam war. You obviously don't know the facts. There are men and women risking their lives so you can sit on the computer and spew your mis-informed political views. If you think this is a game, it's time to join up in a military branch and see what's really going on over there. And, although it would be great if Obama had a magic wand he could wave and end the war, but he don't, and there will be troops over in those regions for the next fifty years, just like Germany, South Korea and many other places the USA has fought.

Not sure he gave a view, he asked a question if I read it correctly.

Well.....at least a pro-Obamanation-ican, "oh no you republicans are not going to put this off on obama. bush start this thing. he screwed around and let the Taliban build back up again.", has Obama wears this war from here, on out. He just clothed it with his surge, his dying duck quackery before West Point cadets. The Obamanation owns it, lock, stock, and barrel. He lifted up his leg, left his mark on the post, went home to chew the bone. rolling on the floor laughing

the problem with the war in Afghanistan. is bush invade Iraq. made up facts. when Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. bush wasted valuable time in Iraq. that let bin laden get away. also let Taliban rebuild. now we got a rebuild Taliban force coming over the border from Pakistan. a government that does not have compete control of all its country. so much time was wasting in Iraq. unless we want this war to in like it did for Russia. we need to step up destroy the Taliban. and there way of teaching hate. if not in 10 or 15 years. we will have to go back.

Former military drill instructor here. A suggestion. Take it to CS email.

Sure I know free speech and open net and all. And it is a viable debate topic. One that has been done one way or another way a 1000 times at CS.

Stand firm for a time. Together....united. Let us see what that brings. Let us give President Obama his 18 months. Not by showing descent in the ranks.

Look what happened today in Afghanistan. They hit a Taliban strong hold and command center from Ospreys. A total win.

I have been one President Obama most vocal critics here. But that does not hurt anyone but the men and women in the field. Why? Because the rest of the world that visits CS.....see us disunited and in descent.

The rest of our people are out in that big world field dealing with them every day. Every day those that read our descent, have less respect for those we sent to them. That is is the objective of the foreign parties that don't want out success in Iraq or
Afghanistan.

Carry on.....I intend too with less or no descent of the President.

You still can have your debate....in private email. Heck, you might even find out that you like each other. Seen stranger things have happened.

Share the idea if you like it with other vets and Americans. I intend to. Feel free to use these words even.

Some very savvy foreign gov't net miners have gamed us for long time on the net. To bring the amount of open descent and disunity we have all written. Time to end it. Stand firm. Stay the course.

Personally, I don't care what your opinion on the topic is. You have a right to it. And a right to express it. But we are being used by these foreign parties in these free and open net forums.
Being used to hurt our countries image in the world. Now is a good time to stand together.

Let us win in Afghanistan and let them eat dust. Let our men and women come home to honor and family. We can do that together and united. Stand firm. Honestly these are the words, I would have love to hear from President Obama from West Point. We stand united for 18 months, maybe he can say them or like then. jmo

i think in this debate. it really don't matter weather your a democrat or a republican. we all want the war to end. but if we leave early. we will have to go back. finish the job. then we can worry about politicals later.

Obama can say 18 months, but the truth is that we will still be there in 5 years or more.

BlainX: The Modern Day Vietnam!

As an Australian, I don't think many disagreed when the US went into Afghanistan originally. 9/11 had just happened, bin Laden had enthusiastically claimed responsibility for it & intelligence indicated strongly that he & his terrorist cells were there. It was an act of war against the US. Retaliation was warranted and appropriate, in my opinion.

Will the US win the war there? I honestly don't know. Afghanistan is a pretty unforgiving landscape & short of blowing the place to smithereens, I suspect the US will never uncover everyone and everything they are looking for there. Terrorism is like a virus, dividing and multiplying faster than it can be controlled in many countries now, not just Afghanistan. That's my impression anyway.

Either way, Obama is in a no-win situation. If he gives up and brings troops home people will say he's leaving an absolute mess behind & allowing terrorism to grow again. I'm pretty glad I'm not him, or anyone else making the tough decisions right now.

First of all I Support the Troops, and Respect all Vietnam vets, I traveled solo to Washington DC to see the Vietnam Wall.
I've also learned the politics of Vietnam, from 65 to 72, the politicians over controlled that war. They started a descale of troops after 69`. There was an exit strategy in place in 70 an 71. Result, all of South Vietnam fell to the North and Communism.

What I know of Afganistan- I'll use a Quote from above
"Will the US win the war there? I honestly don't know. Afghanistan is a pretty unforgiving landscape & short of blowing the place to smithereens, I suspect the US will never uncover everyone and everything they are looking for there. Terrorism is like a virus, dividing and multiplying faster than it can be controlled in many countries now, not just Afghanistan. That's my impression anyway".
Down Under knows her statistical Geography.
Hundreds perhaps thousand miles of rough mountains only with total resolve to win, then it may be Futile to continue?

Three reasons I don't believe...
1.Far less troops than what the General requested?
2.Too worried about NATO and UN involvement?
-So does that mean we adopt the UN policies?
3.Placing a clear Exit Strategy Timetable?
-Does that give any reassurance to the Local Afgan citizen?

If we want to do something that makes sense and worth the effort, lets send the troops to secure an oil field in Kuwait, the least Kuwait could offer to the USA for liberation of their Country...
And quit sending absorbent amount of money to outlaw sheik States of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emerates, Yamen, and The Notorious Iran.
Now there's something worth doing!!!

about Afghanistan. this is to all American citizens. if we pull out of Afghanistan. we must never forget the 3000 people that died. and the Taliban are responsible for hiding the man out that was behind this.
