Although I do have great sympathy for those in Haiti I feel we should do for our own people who are in need over here.

We can't all afford to give money, but here they have set up centres where we can take clothes, blankets etc, which is what i have done.
We all have things we no longer really need, and i think we should do something to help these people, they have nothing.

it is true that we have some poore people here in America but if you have ever been to a place like hatti and seen what they are living with you would know that there are 100'f of thousands of people down there who would love to be homeless here in the US. Most Americans dont realize just how lucky we have it, I agree we sould be helping our own and providing for them but We have more than enough to help others as well. Hatti has suffered a disaster of such praportions that we could only emagine. 'Even katrina hitting New Orelines would not compare to what Hatti is dealing with right now. I think they we should give them all the help we can, but threw the right channels as there are a lot of scam artests out there.

U.S. already allocated $ 100M to the fund.
But to help this nation billions and billions are needed... the country is just ruled by gangs ...
Interestingly, the neigbor on the same island (the island is divided btw Haiti and Dominican Republic) is doing quite well - developing tourism, preserving historical sites.
By contrast, people of Haiti even destroyed vegetation and most of its natural landscapes - turning some sites in vast garbage areas or having done clear cuts in forests. Saw some striking areal photography of the island showing the destruction, and then saw it in reality over a few day trip to both countries... shocking

You have to give to a reliable source like the American Red Cross, my belief is if you give and its misused that eventually those who have misused will have to answer to thier maker. If you fear to give because it might be misused it helps no one, take the chance and have some faith in human kind.
