I think that although it purports to be groundbreaking and innovaive art, it really is a platform for artists who win, to take a hand at their public forever more. It is literally a licence to make money off any kind rubbish, by presenting it to pretentious idiots with more money than sense, who perpetuate the fallacy that it sets some kind of standard for fine art.
The art fraternity atm seems to admire the controversial nature of various themes. The more 'explicit' a piece, the more adulation afforded to the artist. Accomplished artists who study technique and address themes with subtlety seem to be ignored as 'unfashionable'. Thus naivete and shock value in a piece is elevated above a more accomplished work. However, we live in an age that tends to exult the ordinary.
I think the beauty of the Turner prize is that the pieces are so outlandish that it makes people wonder what the heck its about - and anything that gets people thinking at those levels is absolutely fine by me - thats an art in itself

Actually- thats not entirely true....... members of the art fraternity are trying to break the current mode- it ain't easy I tell you! But generally IMHO the Turner Prize is worthless!
