applause another jaaskaleinen fan, i thought i was the only one, see my earlier post from today. I think arsenal or any other big team would have to fork out the big money for him tho, he is a Bolton faithful, been with them practically his entire career.

Actually Poom was signed by Arsenal in August 2005 as temporary cover for Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia but only played one game for them. However, he became the first Estonian to receive a Champions League runners-up medal after Arsenal lost to Barcelona. Poom did not play nor did he make the substitutes' bench for the final, but was a member of Arsenal's 25-man European squad, each of whom won a silver medal. He was sold to Watford in 2007 after becoming surplus to requirements after Arsenal signed Fabianski.

I disagree. I think it has nothing to do with him being Irish. Given's record speaks for itself. Well some people might be inclined to vote for him because he is irish but he is very consistent. He was the best goalkeeper in the premiership based on stats for years when Newcastle were in the premiership and you rarely see him make mistakes. Joe Hart is a great keeper too but for me, Given just shades it because he has bags of experience.

In my opinion, the only reason Given is not still No.1 at City is because of remarks he made in a newspaper a few days before the start of the premiership season. He said he expects to be the No. 1 keeper even now that Hart was back at the club or he would have to consider his future. After that, i think Mancini had no choice but to pick Hart and assert his authority because no manager is going to want to be told who to pick. I think Mancini felt Given was getting a bit too cocky and taking his place for granted so Mancini decided to put him in his place. The only way i can see Given getting his place back at City now is if Hart gets injured for a while and Given plays out of his skin. Chances are, Given will probably change clubs in January though.

rolling on the floor laughing @ Van Der Mouse.

I'd love to see that happen as a united fan but I can't see City selling Given to United.

the only thing against Given is that he's never had to prove himself at a championship challenging side (different kind of pressure)

otherwise he's been superb

True but you could say that about a lot of keepers in England including Joe Hart.

I wouldn't be so quick to write off Van Der Sar either by the way. He's another one who rarely makes mistakes.

Yes but Given needs to move to a top club to make his legacy complete (imo)

Van der Sar's a top keeper, but it's just getting to the stage where his age is catching up on him. i think now would be a good time to replace him, maybe let him go home see out his career with PSV or something like that

The city fans wouldn't be too happy with you saying City isn't a big club laugh Seriously though, i agree. He needs to be playing first team football at a big club at this stage of his career.

You're probably right about Van Der Sar too. What i meant was when Van Der Sar plays for United, i don't think he shows many signs of age. I reckon he will retire after he leaves United though. It would be a major coup for United if they could persuade City to sell Given to them though. Plus the beauty of it is Given probably has about another five years left in him if he can keep himself fit. I suspect City would prefer it if Given went abroad though.
