If no one (both of the prince and the princess) made decision to keep silent each other, they will lose what they desire. The fact they love each other and could be happy if been together. Yes, he talks and laughs because he is not Prince Dumb No, I meant he is silent for not say what's really in his heart (just like unspoken love).

In the original story, in my own language, I called him "Pangeran Sunyi" (in English like "Prince Silent"). But "sunyi" in Indonesia means there's no sound but we still can hear the sound of cricket in the garden, a lizard after its friend on the wall, for example.

So although his name is Prince Silent, he still can talk and even laugh. But maybe I should replace "laugh" with "smile" : We talked and he smiled many times" I think it's better due to the "silent".
