I would not read it. Tempting for sure, but if you do, all trust would be trown out of the window. I can only speak for myself here, the chance that we ever would have a meaningfull conversation after that would be zero. Trust is near impossible to repair. I suggest you comfront him with your worries. Even mention that you are tempted to read the diary. Be blunt, be honest. But don't read it. and somethings are not ment to be know or shared.

Keep looking and take stock. Welcome to the real world. How much are you willing to compromise, make time, adjust your circumstances yourself? You're not ordering some household appliance with plenty of extra options bells and whistles and matching your curtains that fit your likings; to be put on the counter-top just where you wanted it to be. Not making any waves and disturbance to the single life one got used to. It takes two to tango and one can't make a omelette without breaking some eggs... Some common sense and some give and take should do the trick.
