Kenyan boy - seize the lights.
Here's a cute short story to share with youand I'll even make it shorter for you.
A 13 year old Kenyan boy, Richard Turere,
has to watch his family's livestock.
But many nights, livestock are killed
by the local lions.
Lions are densely populated in the region
and the livestock are much easier prey,
than the wildlife.
So, the boy tries several innovative ways
to prevent the lions from getting the livestock.
Scarecrows work one night, but not the next.
Fire only helps the lions see the livestock better.
He notices that the lions are frightened by
the light of moving flashlights.
So, he invents a system using flashing LEDs and a solar powered battery.
The lions aren't harmed and the cattle are protected.
This system is now widely used in the area.
The boy wins a scholarship to a local international school in Nairobi
and was invited & appeared at this year's TED conference in California
where he shared the stage with other top inventors.

Cute line at the end of the story about the sky being the limit for this boy.
By the way, just in case you wonder what TED stands for,
it is; Technology, Entertainment, Design.
It started out as a conference in 1984 with those three
arenas highlighted and has now spread to other areas.
