During a 35-year police hunt, one of France's most slippery serial killers appeared on a game show.
In 2021, Francois Vérove committed suicide after police summoned him. They had discovered DNA in the case which detectives believed may match his, The Telegraph reported.
His wife spoke to investigators after his death, and said she didn't know about her husbands secret life of killing. She added Vérove never attempted to hide or cover his identity, and said he even appeared on a game show, but was unable to tell police when it took place.
On Wednesday, weekly French magazine Marianne found the 2019 show, where Vérove appeared along with five others, and was knocked out in the first round.

A Montana rancher illegally used tissue and testicles from wild sheep killed by hunters in central Asia and the US to breed “giant” hybrids for sale to private hunting preserves in Texas, according to court documents and federal prosecutors.
Arthur “Jack” Schubarth, 80, of Vaughn, Montana pleaded guilty to felony charges of wildlife trafficking and conspiracy to traffic wildlife during an appearance before a federal judge in Missoula. Each count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a US$250,000 fine.
Beginning in 2013 Schubarth conspired with at least five other people in "a decade-long effort to create giant sheep hybrids" that would get higher prices from hunting preserves that allow people to kill captive trophy game animals for a fee, prosecutors said.
Schubarth used flesh obtained from a hunter who had killed a sheep in Krgyszstan belonging to the world's largest species of the animals — Marco Polo argali sheep — and used the genetics to procure cloned embryos from a lab, according to court documents.
Parasitic tapeworm larvae discovered in a US man’s brain, which caused worsening migraines, were likely consumed when he ate undercooked bacon.
The 52-year-old’s ordeal was detailed in a report by the American Journal of Case Reports. It came after he complained of weekly migraines that were unresponsive to medication.
The report says he “lived at home with his wife and cat” in a modern house – which made the discovery of tapeworm larvae strange as he’d not travelled to any risky food areas.
He did, however, indulge in “lightly cooked, non-crispy bacon” for most of his life.
