I think a big quake in the Alps won't have the same effect on Christchurch as the September 2010 quake because of the distance we are from the Alps. Christchurch will continue to shake for a while yet. I still think a big one might hit the Tai Tapu/Prebbleton area.
@ Ed, we(NZ)are overdue for a big quake as well from our Alpine Fault along our range of Southern Alps. Christchurch's current quakes are all local, some right under the city.

Yes, it was 3.77 and around the same place as Mondays quake (the red star in the photo) That will release some pressure from that area for awhile.
