Well, to answer your question, I don't think it's ego at all, in fact I think it's the drama that comes with it, the instant fatherhood and all that it brings, the overall responsibility that is required, the father in picture kind of stuff as well. I think a lot of men are not willing to accept this level of commitment so soon, or so I believe.
Ghen, I believe hope is the bane of our existence, the glue that keeps pushing us forward even when we don’t think we can go on. You sound like you have it in spades, good for you. You also sound strong and determined, which is also good. I just wanted to give you props for getting back on the horse when it threw you off. It takes a ton of courage to do that.

Jac, I don't know if you are messing with me or not lol, but if I could I would, I kid you not. Heck, you wouldn't even have to leave your country, I've always want to visit whales. Life is so unfair that we should be separated by a big dark forbidding ocean as in our case. (:
