The poppy's significance to Remembrance Day is a result of Canadian military physician John McCrae's poem In Flanders Fields. The poppy emblem was chosen because of the poppies that bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their red colour an appropriate symbol for the bloodshed of trench warfare. A Frenchwoman, Anna E. Guérin, introduced the widely used artificial poppies given out today. Some people choose to wear white poppies, which emphasises a desire for peaceful alternatives to military action.
The Royal Canadian Legion suggests that poppies be worn on the left lapel, or as close to the heart as possible.
I was told in Holles st that because of my history I wouldnt have to pay for future smears. Was only when I was talking to a friend that she told me that all women between certain ages could get one done free
As I said I am to have them every 3 months but cant make the apt till have the results so could be 4 or 5 month in between, I am optimistic and will worry when | have to but, but since I and am sure many other women have been told they are high risk cases it shoudnt take that long,
Just hear reading this and looking at my daughters. Like so many woman I have had the indignity of the smear tests and the anxious wait for the results(up to 3 months a disgrace). HAving had an iregular result earlier this year I had to undergo a biopsy which found bad cells, then had to have a colpscopy followed on by a endocervical cureetage,,,yep they scrap away the bad cells. Not an experience I wish for my daughters or any woman,
I have to have a smear every 3 months because I am high risk for developing cervical cancer yet it takes 3 months for the results....
