Irrespective of gender, nobody likes to be made to feel small, in any situation.
Why wouldn't a guy want to show off the woman they're with, or a woman do the same with their man? That has nothing to do with money, success, or independence.
I think it's all a matter of what one wants, and going for it, period. There will always be risks involved, and issues to resolve, no matter where people are from, or how they meet.
Looks like I can't use the bear pic, and maybe this has happened before, seeing as the "this pic cannot be primary" message seems to be somewhat familiar.
