Hard to determine what people are actually thinking on a dating site. Some want to fall madly in love on the 1st date, some want to just meet people and have fun, some have nefarious reasons.
I think forums and e-mails are a decent, but not perfect way to find out what are people's intentions in dating.
Your answer made me think...and I am glad you are here to post it.
Wonder what it would be like for our family and friends if we were never born? Who have we touched that makes our life worthwhile?
Maybe the answer isn't who we touched....rather than who touched us, and that may have helped someone feel needed.
I think I have learned through this whole internet dating experience that I want to be needed. I yearn to give, not only my love and heart to someone, but my complete self. I want to help, to feel other's pain, to make a difference in their lives.
Maybe that is what most of us want...to be needed.
I understand....bipolar people have their fair share of jerks and losers that have nothing to do with the disease. There are alot of jerks in wheelchairs, blind, etc.
Being bipolar isn't who you are, but it is what you have.
I am sorry about you sister, but she is lucky to have a sister like you!!
The world today is Shangri-La compared to 500 years ago. The mass slaughter...not in just a few countries, but world-wide, the disease, the starvation.
I believe in 200 years we will have alot of problems today solved. New problems may arise, and some could be devistating.
Only in the last 150 years did we get indoor plumbing, cars, life-saving medications like penicillen. Our lives have become so easy today, we have time to sit around and think of doom and gloom. It is hard work being optimistic. ...that is natural, because all we see on the news is horror.
How would you like to live 200 years ago? No standards for food safety. No health care. No hospitals, no medicaions. If you get very sick, you would probably have died. Go out and till your own crops, or hunt your own food. If you wanted to get anywhere, you had to walk or if you were lucky, ride a horse.
So try to keep a perspective on things. I am not denying there aren't major problems today, but I think mankind has become alot more civillized, and inventiveness has made our lives much better.
I am bipolar..I was diagnosed 30 years ago when I was 15.
I tell everyone I would possibly like to date up front that I have this illness. I think it would be wrong not to do so. It is a very serious ailment, and it can affect relationships. I am sorry your wife didn't tell you up front heyjim.
I have been on dozens of medications. Sometimes they work for a while, sometimes they don't. I have learned it is more than medication that keep things "balanced". I exercise quite a bit and that helps. Alcohol is a terrible mix...I have been sober for 7.5 years now, and being sober helps tremendously!
Alot of women have rejected me just because I told them I was bipolar...you know what? I don't blame them a bit. My best friend became parapalegic when he was in college. Alot of his friends no longer remained friends with him. People are frightened of things that are different and unknown. It is a natural human reaction.
I hope people who are bipolar will not be afraid to talk openly about it. If people shy away from you, don't be mad with them. You just have to try harder to convince people you are basically OK in alot of ways. If you had a bad experience with someone bipolar, I am sorry.
