It depends. I could dip my toe in the ocean and then tell everyone I'm sopping wet if I wanted.
RTE will "conserve" their budget. I don't rate them much as a channel, news or otherwise. Watching other international news programmes, I've seen reports that RTE leaves out.
Watching a Russian news channel during the recent situation in Libya - a report was broadcast stating that Rebels had made a deal with the Western Allies - America, France and Britain, - in return for airstrikes on Libyan positions, they would get 50% of the oil exports when the Rebels took over in government.
Watched RTE news that day - nothing. Guys smiling and waving AKs and some people swimming in the ocean. Fluff. Next day the same. Don't remember hearing anything else about that deal until weeks later when Gadaffi was dead. There was some quick mention of "helping the Libyan people get their oil industry functioning again".
Now we have Sarkozy stating publicly that the West have to "help the Syrian people by providing them with air support". There's talk about Russia and China opposing the uprising, but little mention of the actual reason. Basically, Russia and China have big oil interests in Syria, and now the West wants it. They'll achieve that by supporting an uprising in Syria and installing a new government in return for oil interests - same as Lybia.
Now, anyone, disagree away if you want, but has anyone seen any of that on RTE? Media has to be independent by it's very nature, a supposedly impartial news channel funded by a state is a paradox and a major conflict of interests. So we know through RTE, most of the time, that something is going on somewhere, but the details and reasons are often left out.
Where's the "irrelevant" button in the poll? Rte seldom gives people the whole story. It's all state funded anyway, so just click the button that best describes the current government, at least, in the light they wish to be portrayed.
So . . . lets get this straight. Make fun of Jews, Africans and Americans. . . but don't tease Americans if you're Irish? But you did it there, and you're Irish. . But it's ok if you do it, or if you're in America when you do it?
And I didn't know I belong to a class. I assume that refers to me as you quoted one of my posts in the title to this thread. We could talk about copyright and anti piracy laws. . . Perhaps I was unaware of my class because, after all, it is the "ignorant" class, right?!
I'm lost, but at least I haven't lost my sense of humour. Perhaps you should try to remember the people you refer to in Manhattan. Am also concerned about you drumming up support on the international forums. Are we going to be invaded?
Was up in Dubland at the weekend, barely any Irish Dubs out in Temple Bar now. . You'll have to get out the blues and represent, teach them how to say "Hiore" and Staaawwwry Bud.
Assuming that we don't wipe ourselves out in the next few centuries.
Homo sapiens are well overdue an evolutionary leap. If that happens, you could end up in a zoo with the monkeys.
The thing is, knowledge and technology lost over the ages would have survived in living memory - had a person been alive at the rise of Egypt. The Renaissance, Da Vinchi etc., alot of those discoveries were actually rediscoveries of Ancient Greek and Roman knowledge, and also Egyptian knowledge as communication existed between Rome and Egypt. But that's very complex politically - many factions who have risen to power have actively sought to suppress knowledge, technology and science. So you'd "know" alot, but would probably suffer criticism and persecution if you revealed your knowledge. Or you'd end up being treated like a god, which would alter the development of mankind.
It's also like Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine. His idea was to build a cheap, rugged, efficient engine that could run on a variety of available fuels. He wanted it to be used in the third world for generators and farm equipment. So he was a good guy with good intentions - a visionary. When his engine was built, and it's potential realised; rather than helping to feed and provide for the poor, it was used in tanks, submarines, warships. His idea became a weapon capable of mass destruction, from the point of view of the time. And it destroyed him in the end, to see what his creation became.
So if you survived the ages and gained all that knowledge, what would you in good conscience do with it - if you get my point.
You're not in your 50's, is this a leg pulling exercise or what?
Always get different things from different people. I had my birthday announced and sang out in a cafe last night. When they asked me what age, I said 21 next week. 4 out of 5 there believed me!
But, anyone who gets talking to me seems to think I'm older. .
Keep them guessing Mr. Tarzan, that's all that can be said!!
Some of that is coming out now - specific targeting of children by advertising agencies. It's partly nagging power, in my opinion it's more grooming a new generation of consumers. Great topic for a dissertation.
Definitely identify with your points there, similar experiences. Do you remember the fake American accents?! Luckily, developing an interest in music helped gain common ground when I was younger. Suppose the rest falls into place over time really.
Watch the film: "Machine Gun Preacher". Same message, better presentation. Kind of agree with what they're doing, but the narrator/film maker's voice goes through my skull. .
Such is the age we live in, and if even one of those statistics was a little off - the whole idea could be ridiculed. But I don't really want to get into that level, I just want people to think about it. The evidence is all around us, we don't really need a study. I know some young people in the States, their level of negativity would blow you away. It does seem to be much more prevalent over there. I'd suggest a link to our own problems with depression in Ireland, but of course, a funded study would be required.
Gave up on TV a long time ago, which is funny, because I'm meant to pay a TV license whether I watch or not? This is the one that'll get me crucified, but in my opinion, it appears that girls on the whole are more susceptible to this stuff than boys. Not all, but alot of them really buy into that culture. I mean, we don't go for the magazines and image as much really, do we?
Of course, but he mentioned an "amp", which requires it's own seperate power supply. The adapters you mentioned are grand, that's what I use.
The red and white connections are for extra speakers, I assume if he has an amp he has extra speakers? Too hard to say without seeing the system. Some of them, like the full face radios, can be a real pig.
Speaker wires are usually black or red, but now always. In a more advanced, expensive system there may be white and red speaker connections similar to those on a 3 pin TV scart lead.
Follow the route of the wiring from the engine bay to the cabin, use a stiff fish-wire to get through. You can get a wire out in either footwell, or behind the radio slot, whatever suits.
Without actually seeing the jeep and the system, it's pretty hard to say more than that. One of the motor factors in town that sell car accessories usually has a lad who knows about radios there. Could be worth your while driving up and asking him to take a look.
Well some people bond for life, and you could read back on a few other posts to see what people's opinions on that are.
Regarding advice based on experience, that would most likely lead to a Cassandra complex. One of the curses of growing older and knowing more through experience, is knowing that young people seldom listen to your advice. All you can do is let them make their own mistakes and hope they don't screw it up too much. True wisdom points people in the right direction and allows them to arrive at their own conclusions.
I suppose we are at an impasse here, but as immortality is not within our grasp, we can't continue to debate indefinitely.
I'd love to pay a whole town to do Groundhog Day as a practical joke. If you want the Truman show, sure find a way to access the camera network in Britain. They've a serious amount of them in "Airstrip One".
I had 3 90's fords, they were all the same. Ford don't ever make massive changes quickly, so I'll bet it's the same in 00+ models also. Have a look at your owners manual, see what's in there.
No one really said bored. More that everyone around them would die, and that they would cease to be a natural real human being.
Being immortal would give you access to immense wealth, if you think about it. Rob a bank, what's 20 years in prison mean to you? Buy a load of valuables, stash them for a hundred years and sell them as antiques.
There would be almost no risk to anything you did. So what would be the thrill in doing anything you wanted? Maybe think about it a bit more.
Well put Vinny. Life is a work in progress. Some people eventually realise that they found happiness in the journey rather than the destination. Or perhaps both, depending on the person.
Well Westy, when the sun dies in about 4 billion years, it will expand and consume the Earth. So, as far as we are concerned, half forever is 2 billion years. Unless you bring other planets or solar systems into it, then who knows?
