A lot many prayers and a lot of practical good work is ofcourse needed keeping in view how many are being suffered in today's world because of poverty, epidemics, global warming, terrorism and regional conflits etc.
We have to pray 5 times a day and no prayers take less than 5 minutes and more than 15 minutes (this varies from person to person too ... I have seen guys praying as if they are not praying but doing an aerobic exercise which should be finished before 60 seconds. but the average duration is 5-15 minutes)
In case of matters like travel, sickness etc, muslims are given quite a bit of relaxation. I have travelled many times with muslims and I have seen my fellow muslims praying in a sitting position (not much kneeling etc, no need to face to a specific direction) many many times. Even I have done so a few times (although being a bad muslim I do not pray as regularly as I should)
I hope this cleared a few misconceptions. Have a nice weekend.
Muslims are nice people unless and until they are not taught wrong, narrow interpretations of Islam. According to Islamic literature the acquisition of knowledge is a must for every Muslim man and women. And its a pity for us to see so many Muslims being illiterate. We need to work really hard in education. This would benefit not only the collective society of Muslims but the whole world.
''Muslims believe in the same God as Christians do, Carol. Jesus is mentioned in the Muslim Qur'an far more than Muhammad.... Different styles of worship, but similar prayers, similar theological beliefs. Jesus is one of the prophets of Islam. Muslims embrace the teachings of Christ without any reserve. The major difference is that Muslims also believe that there was a revelation after Christ's, that of Muhammad the Prophet, who came along some 600 years after Jesus.''
Ocean5555, thats a great amount of information for non-muslims. Being a muslim, I am thankful to you :)
I was once praying and a Christian friend of mine was watching me with great interest and respect. It was nice to know that my christian friend respects what I believe in. We then had to attend a dinner, and it was nice to see that 2 different types of prayers (muslim and christian) were said before eating food.
A couple of days after that, we went to a small christian prayer house which was up above the mountain and I am not sure if I was the first muslim saying prayers in that prayer house.
I had intended to visit the local church too but due to some personal reasons I could not go there.
Nature, water, sunrise, moonlight, music, reading, knowing, learning, rising up after falling, jokes, good old memories, accomplishments, reading, teaching a lesson to the ones who deserve them, acts of love, sacrifice and care (whoever do them).
In my humble opinion, the best way to stop terrorism would depend on how soon and how well you define terroism. As far as I know there is not world-wide acceptable definition of this word as yet.
Moreover one should not believe whatever is appearing on the media. Whatever is shown their to most american viewers is just one side of the whole picture.
I firmly and honestly believe that those who spread terror via their propoganda machinery (such as by making everyone believe that Iraq has got WMD) and the attack a soveriegn country and kill many many civilians including many kids and women, and do inhuman, shameful acts with prisoners in places like Abu Ghuraib and Guantanamo Bay are as good at terrorism as any other terrorist group is.
Also, general speaking, if we look on all the current events and practices going on in various fields of life, we would feel that in all education systems a lot more stronger stress on ethics and the ability to differentiate between right and wrong.
I don't have any kids but I hope it won't hurt anyone if I want to say something here.
The question raised is good. But the education quality varies a lot from country to country and the writer's perceptions and background info / knowledge / interpretation. I would like to say something about my experience of higher level education system of Sweden though I might be wrong. Apologies if I am wrong...
I come from Asia and I am doing a course in Sweden. I had imagined that it would be more interesting, more knowledgeable and more fun to study here. I was expecting that the every lecture would be more like an 'interactive education activity' going on where everyone would be taking part with great zeal and energy. Unfortunately it wasn't the case by any means (in the first term atleast). Ok... may be my expectation was a bit too much. May be here they dont believe that at this age we should have such activities... but still I don't feel good (may be I'm very new to the system).
Now I have to see next week how do the seminars go. But still if a lecture is all about the lecturer hastily going through every slide of his short presentation (which is not that short for it covers many chapters) I won't really like go to school in extreme cold for attending classes. I would opt to stay at home. Afterall it all depends on self-study....
Yes there should be a mechanism to dismiss them anytime. Afterall they are our employees in a way.
I am myself not a real believer in the kind of democracy being practised in almost all countries. I see democracy as a system to choose not the best but the least bad among the many bad ones contesting there...
Also in countries where there is great gap between the mental, education, judgement and intellectual capabilities as well as knowledge of issues, it seems to be very unfair to find that everyone's vote carries the same weightage. I mean why does democray 'COUNTS' the opinion of people instead of somehow judging how capable those persons are who are casting votes. It seems very unfair to me that democracy gives the same weightage to the opinion of
. a PHd having 50 years or so of experience . and a very young uneducated guy who knows nothing about who he should select for his own or his society's well-being (it might be easy to fool such ones specially with help of media/propoganda/brainwashing)
My God and my beliefs help me to have the will power, courage and determination to deal with the most horrible kind of situations and experiences.
Also music, shutting myself in my room for a while, reading and silence helps a lot... Eating chocolates too is helpful at times :) I guess it realizes my tension/depression and while eating it I'm able to take a look at the problem/incident like an outsider and decide what would be the best in such a situation.
I have also observed that usually a little patience and a second, detailed, cool and sound look at the scenario is helpful in many cases...
Cybahippy, mind if I ask which browser are you using now? Personally I love firefox's security but (being a web designer) I dont like firefox much for it is not good at dealing the output of some web design tools... It didn't even support atleast web design tools earlier...
Yami thanks a lot for sharing the info. I have myself experience such a spam attack. Now I dont get any such messages anymore perhaps because I have 2 good antiviruses installed and also a good antispyware:
1. PC cillin (most recent version) 2. Bit Defender (Version 8 - Free Edition) 3. Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal (personal version is free)
Every one's PC should have atleast one good anti-virus and one good anti-spyware installed. And never open a suspicious looking page/file/link.
Wed I am not aware of the full details of the triffle and neither do i know what he wrote in his email. But as he has deleted his profile (being a traitor) the best thing won't be to keep worrying about how to reply him...
Dont forgive him if you dont want to but atleast forget him. All the best
''it depends on the persons...i believe there are people that can fall in love with someone they have never met yet. It is more like platonic love. But to reach this level takes time and very open conversations. Sometimes, people feel easier to open themselves without facing the other one in person. So yes...''
RE: Hate your job??
I don't hate my job. But I do dislike some of my clients at times ;)
