When Trapp was appointed, B Internationals were to be revived. We are still waiting for them. I would disagree with you in terms of strength; the current squad is at it's weakest in years and new players unlikely to come from anywhere; all the worse considering the decent performances of underage teams in the last 15 years.
And yet the team wasn't in a mess when Brian Kerr was forced to stand down, supposedly by the players. The defence is good if they all turn up given the low numbers to hand and Robbie Keane is a lone hope as a reliable and hard working striker getting a regular game. The current squad is the weakest it has been at in years and direly needs a strong defensive midfielder and a playmaker but there is nowhere for them to come through from as it stands.
Currently the total reliance on the FAI on the English Premiership for the international squad is causing us to lose FIFA and UEFA ranking points given it's seeming abandonment of youth development programmes; both Wales and Scotland international teams are also suffering for the same reasons; ironically enough the North are faring a little better in the last 2-3 years. While I am not dumb enough to suggest that the FAI source our whole international squad from the League of Ireland, there are many players in the domestic game that are as good as some of those the Trapp can call upon.
Just thinking aloud here, Maggie but about 15 years ago all the neighbours on our block knew everybody's name and jobs. Somebody held the key for somebody just in case you got locked out or curtains needed closing when you were on holidays etc but you never worried about anything or felt crowded. Now I know the names of the couple next door and the guy one door down and that's about it. Mind you, we can ask favours off people but we don't who does what so it's rare if it happens anymore
Drive to somewhere like Coolmine, Clonsilla or Phoenix Park railway station and get the train into town. The last train out of Connolly leaves at 23:17 so you should be fine.
If anybody is going to Pink on Wednesday, you will need to allow about 17 hours to get to the gig between rush hour and the game in Croker; traffic will be mayhem.
Agreed. More concerned with propping up ticket allocations and giving Italian pensioners millions than looking out for the game in Ireland and helping out schools and clubs to survive.
Did you read Brendan Menton's book; Beyond The Green Door?
