4/5 hours isn't too bad , I'd stop after 1 hour & have a cuppa & stretch the legs , then after the next 2 hours I'd stop again and have a bite to eat and another cuppa , then the last leg of the journey should be a piece of piss ! Now that would all be in the perfect world , too many factors to take into consideration , There mightn't be anywhere to stop at those times , no service station , no little small village , the driver could be knackered from the night before , even if there was no drink involved ,not familiar with the area and the roads ...etc , Fifi hit the nail on the head about motorways and back roads , It's very easy to lapse on a long endless straight line , an even longer secondary road has so many twists and turns it's not possible to doze off due to the amount of concentration , defo safer ! Unfortunately , a lot of these roads have a good few long straight stretches , & these are single lane traffic , these are where some of the worst accidents happen
