My mom was a teacher for over 40 years (mainly first grade), and she was always amazed that a parent would fight for the child to not be retained, when she, as a teacher, knew that it was in the best interest of the child.
My mom is almost 78 and unbelievably, when we are out shopping or whatever, she'll run into one of her students, and they will remember her and she will remember them! Freaks me out, but it is so wonderful for her, because she loved the kids!
