RE: FRIENDSHIP OR LOVE......which is BEST

I don't know Andrew, you must have some few friends you've known for years, maybe since school days, where they've always had your back and vice versa. And while you may be living different lives now, if you had a problem or a crisis, they're the first people you turn to for advice, support or comfort. True friends care deeply about the welfare of each other, and that is in fact love in it's purest form.
I couldn't possibly imagine being in a relationship with someone I didn't regard as my friend also.
If you ask people, who've been together a life-time, the secret of a successful marriage, their answer is always the same. A deep abiding friendship kept them together thro the bad times and enjoying the happy times. Genuine caring about and for each other is always at the core of a successful relationship.
Whether it be with your friends or your life-partner...and that is love.

RE: ROLL CALL... Who is still alive after last night

Sounds like it was brill, sooo disappointed I couldn't go. My half unpacked bag still sits in the living room. Am thinking I will leave it there in readiness for the next Meet !!

RE: WHO WAS TOO EMBARRASSED TO GO TO THE PARTY LOL

I couldn't make it either...am sooo disappointed. Wasn't feeling great last few days but dr had said it was allergies. Anyway was much worse this morning, rubber legs, cold sore above my eye, aching all over, yuk, yuk, yuk. Phoned hotel, hope they'll defer paymt to a later booking. The next get together maybe, sooner rather than later !!
Am off to my bed again, can't wait to hear how the night went....

RE: small minded and sad

I know the picture you had up here and it was a lovely happy & friendly face. I really can't for the life of me understand how anyone could have picked anything negative from it. You're a very pretty girl and should stand your ground by keeping it up.
You're not the first to mention such unwelcome remarks to a photo in recent times. Fortunately the nice people on this site far outweigh the few ignoramuses comfort

RE: RETRO TV

Having lived in New York til I was nearly 11 we were spoilt for choice with all the channels. As a young child the Disney Channel was my favourite for all the cartoons and also the children's movies which usually had some association with the plight of one animal or another.
And of course Sesame Street was a huge fave !!
I remember 'Mr. Ed' the talking horse.
Laurel & Hardy.
The 3 Stooges.
Abbott & Costelloe.
The Little Rascals.
And I worshipped Lucille Ball, 'I love Lucy' show and all her movies, so much that when I was 6 & 7 I used to tell people I was going to be an actress when I grew up cos I figured she'd be too old to be doing it by then, lol, the logic of kids !
We moved to Ireland early 70s...One tv channel, I think the 2nd came on shortly after, but still it was disappointing for a child. In my teens I remember a run of comedy, some already mentioned but also 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em' and Benny Hill.

Gosh this thread drums up lots of old memories !! Good one Crystal thumbs up

RE: Why do people lie

Oh my God, what a horrible despicable thing to do to that poor man. And for what purpose ?
I knew of a man with grown up family who had an accusing finger pointed at him by a younger relative. He denied it but was deeply upset by it and his wife & family distraught. His heart couldn't take it and he died and one of his own family had cancer return after 15 yrs and also died. The investigation eventually found him innocent.
An extreme example I know, but a lie often does not affect just the accused. Family/friends/co-workers may be consulted for support and advice on how to deal with the situation. And the rumour mill spreads it further afield.
In a relationship a lie can cut to the quick, it immediately kills trust & spells the end. I have often seen and wondered at the stupidity of some people to destroy a beautiful relationship with dishonesty.

RE: Holidaying Alone

That is actually a great idea for Singles holiday !

RE: RE: Dublin Meet

How about 'Chemistry Society' tongue

Not sure about games tho, drinks & chatting will do me since I haven't met anyone before. Not even sure I'd get round to meeting everyone with it being such a big group.

RE: Friends requests..........

Thanks Mr Wright & Crystal,
Found a fan lurking there earlier laugh and just got the Friends request. It certainly is a rather buried feature, they're usually on top or at least more obvious on other sites.
Anyways, you learn something new every day ! wink

RE: Friends requests..........

Friends Requests ???? Fan Feature ?????

I have scoured my CS page here and don't see that anywhere. Maybe I don't have those options ??
Where exactly are they ?

RE: looking to date older women

Ah but it depends what the expectation is of those 'returns'.
Perfection takes years of practice, and quality beats quantity every time ! cheering

RE: whats better length or gurth as in manhood please be honest

Ooooh, and that was the toned down version !! blushing

Had alot of other thoughts on the matter but they might get me into trouble !! devil

RE: whats better length or gurth as in manhood please be honest

Never ceases to amaze me that men are so preoccupied about the size of this one body part.
And knowing that this body part comes in various sizes, surely they must realise that women do too !!
Not all women can accommodate a large man.
In fact, I think the majority of women would be quite alarmed to see a bigger than average one coming at them....(do ye girls agree ?)

Don't want to be getting all technical here, but really guys, just relax & forget about the surgery, which apparently is not successful & only gives you about another inch anyway.

RE: Random IM Requests

Totally agree DreamAngel....When the IM request comes in you have absolutely no idea who's sending it. I have gone to the IM section within Mailbox a few times to see who it is, and when its a friend I go back to click 'Accept', by which time the IM request has disappeared.

I know you can always close it down if it turns out to be someone you'd rather not talk to, but that seems kind of rude after clicking on the Accept option and committing yourself to a chat.

It would be much better if the Sender ID appeared on the IM request in which case you definitely know if you want to Accept or Decline.

RE: Vote No to the Lisbon Treaty.

Media reports in the UK announce Ireland has rejected the Lisbon Treaty. This is now causing much consternation as Gordon Brown had intended ratifying the treaty without a Referendum. But with the electorate of 3 countries having voted against it, he's being advised it would be electoral suicide to Not allow UK voters have their say. Will be interesting to see what happens next...

In the meantime the Foreign Minister was nearly spitting into the microphone with his disgust that he now has to explain why Ireland voted no.
And Brian Cowen has laid the blame squarely on the shoulders of the No Camp, and whining that people with no place or position in Europe & who do not have to defend themselves, have now put him in an embarrassing situation. Now that's a spineless attitude to take, I really thought he had more backbone than that. I hope he has the sense to find out WHY the people voted against it. Would be very easy to do a mailshot and get people to fill it in & return their opinions anonymously.

Meanwhile the voices in Europe are saying that Ireland is anti-reform, we've been very happy to take their money for years and now we don't want to see the less well-off countries getting the same assistance. Which is a rather nasty slant on our rejection of Lisbon.

It's not over by a long shot, think we'll be hearing alot over the coming weeks. The UK situation has yet to unfold too.

RE: Bars of silver

I don't fish...in fact I don't eat fish either.
But I guess we know where you'll be this weekend !!

RE: What 2 do

Sudden death can bring about a form of shock which helps the family get thro the arrangements and funeral without completely falling apart.
But afterwards when reality and loss hits home he's going to need his friends.
The trip is not a 'now or never' situation, but the funeral & aftermath is.
Check with the travel agent and see if the trip can be postponed cos I'm sure he'll benefit from a holiday in a few months.
If, however, there is too great a financial loss to the group in not going when planned, that is something only you can determine.

RE: LISBON TREATY

I remember way back in 1989 discussing the proposed European Union with family in the States. A cousin voiced his opinion that it would eventually become a 'United States of Europe'. At the time I disagreed, as the information to hand was that each country would retain it's political, economic & cultural autonomy.
However I now feel my cousin's words are coming to pass.
Brussels will be our 'Washington', our Federal government, and will need money to fund it.
In the USA people pay double tax, ie. State taxes & Federal taxes.
In 2004 Charlie McCreevey said The Commission's long term hidden agenda was to take control of taxation. They've tried to cushion the real intention with words like 'a common EU tax', implying every European would pay the same, which sounds fair enough.
But is the true intent to introduce double taxation ??
We also saw back in 2001 when Charlie, then Finance Minister, had his knuckles rapped by the Commission for a budget which was seen as too generous to the Irish people ! And they reluctantly agreed to his SSIA scheme. Those early warning bells were a strong indicator of how much control they intend to yield over each country within the Union.
We've already seen the unfair voting system at the U.N. where large countries can use their weight to turn a vote in their favour. And the USA flaunted theirs in the face of the UN to invade Iraq.
A more fair system surely is One Country, One Vote.
Our own government Ministers were recently asked if they had read the Treaty in its entirety, and even Charlie McCreevy who as Irish EU Commissioner had worked on aspects of it, admitted he had not read every paragraph and subparagraph within the articles. I mean, come on, if our own government show such apathy for the future of its own citizens, how do they expect the electorate to place blind trust in their call for a Yes vote.
In any Contract you read the small print...in fact, the smaller the print the more attention you pay to it, with a magnifying glass if needed !!
This government seems more concerned with its ego & how it will be perceived on the International front if the electorate returns a No vote. But I see a No Vote as a negotiating tool by which we can force the Treaty to be revised and send a message that we do not want to see the EU Commission becoming a dictatorial ogre.

RE: Who was at Rory???

I'm sure it was brill, great line-up of bands playing nothing but Rory.
Ballyshannon's a real trek from Cork but this bod really isn't up to roughing it in campsites anymore sigh
But for lovers of Rory Gallagher,Sinnerboy (who also play Ballyshannon
every yr) do at least 2 tours of Ireland annually. Excellent UK based 3piece, huge fans of Rory & do great justice to his music. They have a website if you want to see when they're next in Ireland.
