Lurchers are dogs which are part greyhound and part other dog and there are a lot of them around animal shelters. There is also a disproportionate amount of staffordshire bull terriers in shelters also.
The people who work in and volunteer their time in shelters deserve our respect and thanks for looking after animals who need help and protection from humans with no empathy for the animals they possess.

Look at that program instead of giving opinion, try dealing in facts which are shown on that program and then you might change your mind about what you just wrote. Open your mind to facts and reality and watch the 2nd half of primetime 23/7/15 from 16 minutes onwards on rte player. Facts and reality not opinion Stanley, try that for a change.

One part of the problem imo is that some groups kick up such a stink when their culture or way of making money from betting is threatened that it makes enforcing laws more onerous and off-putting to do.
Greyhounds are also treated abysmally and are often abandoned when they are no longer useful to their owners. Animal shelters have a disproportionate number of greyhounds to their popularity among the general population. They are used for racing and betting by many.
Animals are used by many for their enjoyment but sometimes people have no concern for the animals and they are seen as things to be used, not animals to be respected and cared for, a true sign of decency and humanity.
RTE Primetime 23/7/15 2nd half of the program at 16 minute mark onwards deals with horses racing on public roads, the injuries some of those horses receive and what happens to them. If you watch it, have watched it or have an opinion on it you might reply.
I found the plight of some of the horses upsetting and I think it's a national disgrace the way some horses are treated in this country.
