Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

What a short memory some people have. I haven't got the time to google it, but didn't the British Government recently bail-out the Irish, when Europe called in their money and put Ireland to the wall? We are neighbours and your attitude is not conducive to a friendly relationship. The Irish nation is famous (and loved) throughout the world and YES, when I am abroad, I am also Irish. Anyway back to the discussion at hand, the banks are impervious to restrictions on spending, like the rest of us. We need to take back control of our money and stop letting the fat cats award themselves even bigger wage rises. Bring back the guillotine. Soon.

BREXIT STICKING POINT?

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. As a DIY'er, I have long suffered from those words. The current impasse over some sort of agreement with Brussels, has left me wondering. What is the sticking point? Has anyone got the definitive answer? I AM NOT LOOKING FOR OPINIONS, here. That is, unless you label your comment as such. Vis:- "In my opinion." I would much rather see something like:- "The sticking point is" followed something that is the truth and nothing but the truth. I am not interested in bad taste remarks about either me or the subject.
NOW. Now that I have got that off my chest, I will give you my opinion.
IN MY OPINION, THE STICKING POINT IS TARRIFFS. I cannot see any other barrier to the UK continuing to trade with Europe, on a level playing field. ((as an equal partner) for those who don't like cliches). If so, then why is there a necessity for tarriffs? Surely a German BMW will be worth the same after BREXIT, as it is now? Why should it not? If Brussels impose tarriffs on the UK, then it is almost an act of war. Alright, maybe not just so extreme as that, but it is certainly not the way to treat an old friend and ally. So, I am at a loss to understand why we should have to negotiate some sort of trade deal, just because we are no longer a member of THE CLUB.
OK. Now it is your turn. Have you got the definitive answer?

RE: Is the U.K. gearing up for another BREXIT vote?

If you mean "Let's see how well THE EU can do it alone" then I am also curious. Italy is ready for leaving. Portugal, Spain and Greece are not particularly happy about things European. There are even rumblings in, of all places, France. The recent unrest in Germany, has signaled that the German people are not keen on having open borders any more. Which was the main reason the UK voted to leave. Regardless of the misinformation (lies) that remoaners are so very quick to quote. Finance and commerce were very low on a list of priorities, when it came to voting to leave. Sudden, massive, un-British immigration was the root cause of distaste for everything European. Simple things like transport, health and housing all bursting at the seams, was enough to trigger a backlash against a system that could not be ruled. It is time everyone had faith in our ability to survive after we leave Europe and stop scaremongering. We did it before and when called upon, we were there to rescue half of Europe when war struck. I am not old enough to have memories of the last war, but my mother and uncles all fought to give us all a successful future. NOT to have it thrown away by bureaucrats in Brussels, non-elected, non-sackable and non-justifiable, running our legal system, our trade and who we can trade with. In a few years we will be prospering again, by our own hand and not from HAND-OUTs, like other countries.

Sergio Ramos ... Jail. At least.

Sure, here in NI a trophy is what goes under the bed. Why would we want one of those? Unless we moved to Spain.

Sergio Ramos ... Jail. At least.

We don't need to worry, we've already beaten Spain. Haha.

Sergio Ramos ... Jail. At least.

More than 500,000 people wished that Spain would lose to Russia, because of Ramos. It would seem that the power of prayer really works. Hahaha.

IRELAND. Hard border OR soft border?

There are some things about an island nation, that cannot be ignored. Your borders finish at the tide. The vote for a break from Europe was driven by (and I will be vilified, for saying it) immigration. Too many people all at once. A strain on public services, like transport, health centres, housing. We (as a nation) do not, or have ever had, a poor attitude towards foreign people. We are a nation of nations and I love it. Brexit is all about freedom.

IRELAND. Hard border OR soft border?

Thanks for your input. I have now done a bit of Irish history reading. I am truly ignorant of quite a lot of goings on from the past. I am in total agreement about the "folks NOT on the hill" (Stormont). You will appreciate that my post was about today and the future.

IRELAND. Hard border OR soft border?

For those of you who are not familiar with the situation in Ireland/UK, I'll try to give you a brief description.
The UK is leaving Europe. NO, we are not sailing off into the distance. The UK is leaving the European Economic Community. I'm not even sure if it is still called the EEC. We voted in a referendum to leave. The then prime minister, David Cameron, wasn't prepared for a leave vote and sulked and took his ball home. No he didn't. He resigned.
We in the UK are fed up with being controlled by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels. As such, they cannot be removed from their position by an election. Another thing, when we, in the UK joined the EEC, we were one out of (I believe) seven other countries, as members. In other words, we had a seventh of the say in what was going on. Now there are twenty-seven countries in the EEC and now we have only a twenty-seventh say in everything that goes on there. Anyway, we are leaving. BUT there is a stumbling block. The UK is made up from four countries. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland as the name suggests is part of the whole of Ireland, or Eire. Eire is a member of the EEC and intends to remain as such, after the UK leaves. Are you getting the picture, now? So, from what was a friendly style of border, there is talk of either a hard border or a soft border. A hard border meaning a custom's post, manned with custom's officers. Also, the thought is that every vehicle will be stopped and searched. Thus causing tailbacks of traffic for miles and adding huge costs to international travel. That as an alternative, to a soft border, which it is now. With no customs checks, or hold-ups on the junction between the two countries.
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.
Does everyone who is against a hard border, really think that there is a completely open and free border now? Goods and people are routinely checked. How do you think the police catch smugglers? How do you think the police can say that a certain villain, has crossed a border and turned up in Tim-Buk-Tu.
I think it is time Ireland joined the UK in thumbing their nose at Brussels. Come on. We will be much stronger together.

Gun tattoo. Why would you?

Ah! Just a vivid sense of humour? I guess you'd be fun to be with. Good luck to you, from Ireland.

Gun tattoo. Why would you?

Wishful thinking, maybe?laugh

Gun tattoo. Why would you?

Mr. R sterling now has a gun tattooed on his leg. To celebrate his father being shot when he (Mr Sterling) was two years old. Wrong message, I think. What do you think?

Sergio Ramos ... Jail. At least.

Point taken.
I still think Sergio should be jailed for assault.

Sergio Ramos ... Jail. At least.

Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. Wikipedia

Equipment: Football (or soccer ball)
Contact: Permitted (limited)
First played: 19 December 1863, Limes Field, Mortlake, London, England
Highest governing body: FIFA

It is a shame that not only does Spain breed criminals like Sergio Ramos, but also uneducated low-lifes like Bnaughty.

Sergio Ramos ... Jail. At least.

To Bnaughty
In case you hadn't noticed, this forum is international. "Football" in America means something very different. The term "Soccer" is international.
To reb56
Accidental injuries, unfortunate, yes. Malicious wrestling moves, resulting in hospitalisation, are definitely not acceptable and should be punished.

Sergio Ramos ... Jail. At least.

Bobjagger.
The internet is full of clips of the cynical tackle. Please look carefully at it/them and then decide who should be hanging their head in shame. "POOR LOSERS"? At least they played the game without the assistance of a hit-man. For that is all you could say about him. Living in the UK means "Fair Play", in every aspect of life. We are very particular about how the GAME is played. That is why the game has rules. "POOR LOSERS"? THE ONLY LOSER HERE IS THE GAME OF SOCCER.
So, Bobjagger, if your only input into this subject, is two words, then why did you bother stretching you brain so very hard?

Sergio Ramos ... Jail. At least.

I can't believe a psychopath like Sergio Ramos can still be allowed to walk the streets. The referee needs sanctioning. To have allowed a cynical tackle to go unpunished, is a crime itself. If the football authorities are going to do nothing, then the police should step in and arrest the thug and charge him with assault. I am going to sign the petition started by Liverpool Football Supporters to have Sergio Ramos punished.

STOP funding CANCER research. A cynic's approach.

WOWeeeeeeee!

I wasn't really expecting such a vitriolic response.

Maybe the subject isn't aired often enough. Was I surprised at the oft mentioned "Fat Cats"? Probably not, because that is another one of my pet hates.

Quite a few of you have ideas about alternative treatments. I, myself, have thoughts on the subject. Possibly bordering on the lunatic. I do believe that the brain has its finger on the pulse of everything going on in the human body. Were I to get cancer, I would hunt out the best hypnotist I could find. I would ask him (or her) to speak to my brain, find out if my brain, first of all, knew where the tumors were and secondly, was it possible to cut off the supply of nutrients to the tumor, without effecting the rest of the tissue. Phew! A bit far-fetched, I know. Something about a drowning man, comes to mind.

Of course, I have heard of alternative remedies for cancer sufferers. A lady neighbour of mine, was diagnosed with a disease that was regularly associated with cancer. I had heard that eating apricot kernels had a positive effect on cancer cells. So, I bought some online and encouraged her to try them. The doctors knew she had cancer, but they could not find the tumor, because the apricot kernels had shrunk it. The apricot kernel treatment, is native to some parts of India. It is also documented, so anyone interested can do a bit of their own research. G**gle it!

STOP funding CANCER research. A cynic's approach.

Who does a cancer cure most benefit? Why, of course, cancer sufferers. Who does cancer research most benefit? Obviously, the pharmaceutical industry. Who stands to gain, if a cancer cure is found? Again, the cancer sufferers. Who stands to lose, if a cancer cure is found? Again, the pharmaceutical industry.

So, I am putting forward the idea, that if we (the people who donate to cancer research) stop donating, then the only way the pharmaceutical industry can make any money, is to sell a cancer cure.

Yes, recently the pharmaceutical industry, produced a drug, which gave cancer sufferers some sort of prolonged relief. BUT (and a very BIG but) at such a price that very few could afford it. That brings me to another point. How come, that when we have donated thousands of millions to cancer research, that they are so greedy, as to expect us to pay even more for a drug, that we have paid for, hundreds of times over?

I do not believe that the pharmaceutical industry, have any intent of producing a cancer cure, because if they do, their funding stops.

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

I just couldn't let it lie there. So, to put this baby to bed, I am giving you a link to a guy who I heard way back when I was better looking. I am sure that the sentiments of the song were what attracted me to him. BTW, this is only one example of this song. There are hundreds of versions.

(I just read the rules for posting here and I can't give you hyperlinks) So, please look up (notice the absence of the word g**gle) Murray Head and a song called "Corporation Corridors". Quite poignant.

I am sure you will be able to find the lyrics if you want to read them.

Thanks for being my friend.

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

You have my total support. Legal aid comes nowhere close. People would say, "Pull yourself together." Reality, is never near the truth. There are always clichies (sp) that describe situations that can either be avoided or encompassed. A bit surreal, but all I can offer at this time is a listening ear.

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

Yes you are right about "talk being cheap". That is true, if the talk is either deception or just an untruth. Talk can also be worth a lot. Living in Northern Ireland, we had approximately 30 years of social unrest, that was only overcome by talk. Most conflicts can be subdued with a bit of talk. Personally, I think the native Americans had the right idea. The peace pipe. I don't know what was in it, but it got a lot of credibility.

Your writing seems to be influenced by some sort of bad experience. If you want to discuss something, to get it off your chest, so-to-speak. You could send me a private email. I am not prying into your private life, just offering a sounding board for discussion.

Rachie14, thanks for your participation. I have enjoyed our spring cleaning. It is always good to get the cobwebs cleared away. I have similar discussions with friends and family. We call it "Setting the world to rights". Most of our discussion involved a fair amount of what we like to call, "Common sense". It would seem that people in power lack that very ingredient. I think they have all been promoted to their level of incompetence. Sadly for the rest of us, we suffer while they service their bank accounts.

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

I have a theory that there are people (departments) who will not admit that there is nothing more that they can do to improve their job. I am thinking about those people, like for instance, the people who draw up traffic regulations. If they say that they cannot do anything to improve the system, then they are out of a job. Tied in with that theory, is my belief that there are too many people who will not police existing regulations/laws, but just sit about thinking up new ones.
I could go on, but I think anyone reading these rants, will realise that the world is not a perfect place and some people (me included) would like to see some improvement. Governments do not seem to be the right people to do that. Good luck everyone.

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

Believe it or not, I have joined the PensionersParliament. I have not been to the first meeting yet, so can't comment yet. I will (given the chance) make it hot for wasters in the NHS, the government for not hammering the sugar lobby and police/government for allowing car manufacturers to fit DRLs (Daylight Running Lights) that do not focus and have stopped me from driving at night because of glare. I didn't realise how much it effected others until I stopped meeting people after dark. (That didn't come out the way I intended.) Other people complained that it was effecting their evening driving habits. My son included.

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

We would appear to be like-minded on certain issues. (AND at loggerheads on others) I, too, am disgusted with Tory policy on social housing and it is probably too late to reverse the trend. Seeing that wealthy landlords are the ones keeping the Tories in power. Never-the-less, the money given to the DUP (if so very easily found) could have been spent more wisely, on reducing the austerity bill and giving some poorer people a break from debt and insecurity.

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

AND another thing. Population of Greece is approximately 11.2 million. The Greek national debt is approximately £230Bn. Meaning that every man, woman and child (including new-born babies) owe about £20,600.00 each. A household with a husband a wife and two kids, owes over £82,000.00. OWED TO WHOM?

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

That seems a bit simplistic. The difference between the value of a property and what the bank recoups, can't be so very big, that it puts us all into such huge debt. Regardless of what everyone believes, I think we are being taken for a ride. The government can turn round and find money for all sorts of schemes, without there being an outcry of "WASTE, WASTE", "SHAME, SHAME". Take, for instance, the £1 billion for the DUP, in Northern Ireland. NOW, explain austerity. Please.

Banks! Where's the money? I need to know NOW.

Exactly! So if the debt was repaid, why are we still being penalised with austerity?
