my son left home 21 years ago but I know if I need his help I usually dont have to ask.

My mum died in feb this year and he immediatley gave me a cheque to cover the fact I needed time off work and would not get paid.

But most of all he and his wife were a good support network as was my daughter and grandchildren.

I can see the points that are being made.

Just to add a little to them, I have met lots of young people whose parents have given them very little in life, incuding love and respect and even the basics such as food, clothes and safety, but you ask them who they love and want to be with, yup its mum and dad.

my dad was a very quiet gentle giant.

He was always there for me and never let me down.

We would sit for hours, not talking, he was just being my dad.

It took a long time for me to accept he was gone but I do believe that he still sits with me when I really need him.

In February this year he came to to say to my mum that 19 years apart is long enough.

I miss them both telling me how much they love me.
