'beardy'.. when he would rub our faces with his stubble
when he would sit half way up the stairs and we would all (5 of us) try to get past and he would push us down (

when I called him from Uni, to say that i hated my course ( the one he had taught at that uni and encouraged me to switch to), and din't want to continue on to Honours, but to graduate that year- i was pretty worried making that call, knowing how much importance my parents put on education, and he just said- 'No problem, all we want is for you to be happy'. I miss him ( 22 years gone nowsigh )

My mother was the best mother/father any gal could ask for.
...she gave me so much, taught me more then I needed to know, and was always there for me.
My father could not even hold a light close to all my mother gave me,all the years of her life....however I do have some fond memories shared with my father,I just figured in light of father's day around the corner,is my mother I give credit.

To all the mother's,father's,sister's,brother's,grandparents, adopted parents,grand-parent's,caregivers,and all those that have taken great stands in a child's life.

Oh, the stubble thing, that brings back memories. My dad could cut you with his at 4 in the aft, and he loved to do that, rub his face on your cheek.
Telling jokes at the dinner table, he could make you spit your tea across the table laughing. And my mom, oh John!, when it was a particularly corny one. There was one penguin joke my mom really hated, we'd get him to tell it just to get her reaction.
Teaching me to drive, it's a wonder either of us survived that!

My Dad was fun.

Very social...in the Lions Club, a Mason and loyal friend of the Dartmouth baseball team.

He was a golfer, skier, swimmer, bowler and was always up for a good time with his buddies. Mom hated his drinking, his friends.

He taught me all the things a girl should know....carpentry, plumbing, how to shoot hoops, play golf and throw a football laugh

He and my mother wanted a boy - it was their last chance dunno

I turned out to be too female, too smart and not quite what he expected.

But I think he was proud of me.

And he liked it that I put his tools back after I used them grin

my dad was a very quiet gentle giant.

He was always there for me and never let me down.

We would sit for hours, not talking, he was just being my dad.

It took a long time for me to accept he was gone but I do believe that he still sits with me when I really need him.

In February this year he came to to say to my mum that 19 years apart is long enough.

I miss them both telling me how much they love me.

Thanks so much in memory of you both. I love you

We never had a good word to say to each other, couldnt be in the same room for more than a few minutes without a row, to alike my Mam said.

Then I found myself alone with 3 young children. I got the chance of a good job but it meant further education as well as working full time, my dad encouraged me to take the job and he looked after my children each day while I worked full time and studied for 2 years, he became my wife lol (his words) looking after the kids, cleaning my house, cooking dinner. Without him I would never have managed to get my diploma, unfortunately he died a month before my graduation ceremony, but he was there in spirit.

also- driving the long distance in the car, to the far from exotic holiday destinations we went to- he would teach us songs, games, and say stuff like..'what?? NONE of you saw that sign that said..'fish and chips 14 miles'?? just to keep us all quiet for another few minutes!
always trying to educate us, in a nice way, like making us ask fr things at the dinner table in french, or making us describe something while sitting on our hands- like a spiral staircase-- try it, it's not easy LOL.
my dad was not a 'huggy kissy' type of guy, and I don't ever remember hime saying ' I love you' to us, but thank you for making me remember those things and realise that, inside , he truly did love usheart beating
