RE: Did you know Albert Einstein actually believed in God

Einstein was Jewish. At the time he enunciated Special Relativity and General Relativity he was a lowly clerk working in the Patent Office in Bern.

RE: Classical Music....

Avid classical music fan here. Regularly have classical music radio stations playing in the background whilst doing other things. Love to go to concerts.

RE: are you cold right now?

Drop in and say hello for a few days if in this area of California. Bring surf board.

RE: are you cold right now?

For those of you back in England U.K. Santa Cruz is just like Cleethorpes was years and years ago. Nothing changes much in this area, very laid back. The roller coaster is seventy years old and the boardwalk almost a hundred years old. Play volley ball on the beach. wine

RE: are you cold right now?

Forgot to mention I am ten minutes walk from the beach and the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Often watch the surfers. applause Love this area yay

RE: are you cold right now?

Early afternoon in Santa Cruz, California. Not cold at all. Nice fluffy white clouds amidst a blue sky. Temperature is 63F 17C. Not too cold at nights either. I sleep with my apartment window open so I can hear the sea lions barking at night . . . .

RE: Flights grounded.

Look, all this ash in the air is truly not my fault. I am only a moderate plain old tobacco pipe smoker which produces ash and would apologise for any inconvenience caused by the additonal ash in the air from my pipe smoking activities . . . .

RE: Wow what a sight.

Take a vacation in Alaska. You will not be disappointed. These colorful glows of auroral displays are dynamic and fast moving regularly changing shape and color. A must see. Somewhere on the web you might find a specialist tour company that organises package holidays to view aurora in Alaska.

Read "Color and Light in Nature" co-auhthored by Dr David K Lynch and Dr William Livingston published by Cambridge University Press. Lavishly illustrated with beautiful pictures and a not too complex write up about the causes of colorful sky glows and other meteorological and astronomical phenomena. Very much a "coffee table" book to impress friends and family with.

P.S. : You will find two of my pictures in it.

I was not answering a sunset question simply answering the cause of Northen Lights. gerisoul and I are correct in that Northern Lights are NOT caused by volcanic activity.

I have been an amateur astronomer and optical meterologist for thirty five years since ten years old. Nothing at all to do with volcanic activity.

NO, NO, NO. gerisoul is 100% correct. The phenomenon of Northern Lights has nothing to do with volcanic activity.

Charged particles coming from the sun interact with the northern and southern magnetic poles of the earth causing geomagnetic disturbances in the Van Allen Belts. The different colours because of the chemical/physical interactions going on. Displays are usually short lived. No two displays are ever the same. Enjoy these light shows folks: you do not have to pay admission you just need a clear sky. The further north you are in the northern hemisphere and the further south you are in th southern hemisphere will produce more displays.

RE: Wow what a sight.

See Northern Lights pictures in the archives of:

Astounding collection of pictures there.

RE: Wow what a sight.

I'm a globe trotting amateur astronomer and have seen them. Never mind the science just sit back and enjoy the view, Northern Lights are spectacular.professor

RE: Too overweight to date?

Well that was pretty mean for him to say that at all. We are all what we are. You look all right to me, quite attractive actually. How come you are not relocating to Santa Cruz California? Could do with the company etc etc etc.
Take me for instance (one day a lady will) I'm a walking skeleton but my extreme thinness is just purely me. I can eat and eat and eat and never put an ounce on. I would hate to marry a lady with the sasme build as myself. We would be like two skeletons rattling away on a tin roof during the love making.
Don't put up with comments like the one he threw in your direction, serves him right if he doesn't get a date for years.

RE: THE DIFFERENCE WHEN YOU MARRY A CANADIAN GIRL

So, a very worried 73 year old man went to consult his doctor.
"Doctor, he said, "will I live to be 80?"
The doctor looked at him puzzled and called up the man's medical history on the computer.
"H'mm," said the doctor, "we don't seem to do much for you: no major illnesses and no operations in life."
"But will I live to be 80?" said the man.
The doctor thought about the question a little further.
"Do you smoke?" asked the doctor.
- "No," came the reply, "I have never smoked in my life."
"Do you drink?" asked the doctor.
- "No, I have been non-alcoholic all my life," said the man.
"Do you gamble?" asked the doctor.
- "No," replied the man, "I've always kept my money to myself."
"But will I live to 80?" asked the man again.
By this time the doctor is feeling a little exasperated.
"Do you go chasing women?" asked the doctor.
- Well no," replied the man, "I've always lived the total celebate Chrisitian life."
"Do you go out and about with friends?" asked the doctor.
- No, I keep myself to myself," came the reply.
"Do you go on expensive vacations abroad?" asked the doctor.
- "No, I have never traveled beyond this region," came the reply of the man.
Finally fully exasperated the doctor turned to the man and said: "WITH SUCH A BORING LIFESTYLE LIKE YOU HAVE WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT TO LIVE TO BE 80 FOR?"

RE: Worst day of The Year to be Single/Alone? ; (

Doesn't have to be a special festive occasion to be alone. For some people it happens every day so festive occassions lose their importance.

RE: Should there be a "debt" column on the profile

How about some good old fashioned frugality! Debt what is that? If you cannot buy it for cash twice over do not buy it until you have saved. Home mortgages are a different category and should not be classified as debt but as long-term investment. I am not keen on plastic electronic money. Cash up front still opens a lot of doors, give it a try. I have only used my plastic debit card three times since January all other transactions I drew the cash out of the bank and handed it over. If a woman is sincere with a man she will not look at the bank balance of the man. Every man woman relationship has its ups and downs and sometimes they are financial but a partner should not be so concerned about how much is available but how to help in weathering any financial storm. No, a debt column is not a good idea on the profile.
