Going out for a few hours with a friend is hardly abandoning her! I agree with Scottyburd if she was seeing it as a date her mother would not be coming along.On the other hand she may want her mother to approve but at such at early stage that would concern me unless your friend has no problem with mother in law also becoming a huge part of his life... not for the faint hearted!!
