RE: Matching Couples

H'm? What? Did someone say something about "slap and tickle"?

RE: Matching Couples

Of course, that's when a copper would come sauntering by, tap him on the knee with his night-stick, and say, "Hey, Mate! Wake up! You can't lay about here! This is a public place! I don't know where your other shoe has got to! Nirvana? No, I don't know no Nir-van-a, Mate! Is that yer girl friend, then? Shall I give her a call, have her pick you up?"

RE: Matching Couples

Matched??? But . . . but . . . I thought we were here only as mere bystanders!!! Are you telling me that we've inadvertently been caught in the web of virtual nudge-nudge, wink-wink, "I think there's been some on-line hanky-panky going on"???

"Row, row, row your boat
"Gently up the creek;
"Snag yer knickers on the rocks
"And give the lads a peek . . . "

RE: Matching Couples

Ha! One what? One dozen?

I can't believe this! You gals are picking the guys over like we're an assortment of chocolates! "O-o-o-o-o!" *squeal* "Look at this one! Caramel! Hey, I saw him first!" *scratch* *claw* *bite*

We're not chocolates, I'll have you know! We're men! Men with . . . with . . . creamy filling inside . . . with white-chocolate drizzle cascading down our . . .

I will see myself out. grin

RE: A question for Americans????

I wouldn't call her a communist, exactly, but idea-wise I think Atlas Shrugged is a nasty piece of work. Morally bankrupt, no conscience, so social conscience. It was required reading when I was in high-school, and rather than be thought-provoking, only made me wary of the kind of mind that follows such theories.

thumbs up

RE: After we die, our soul ...

That's an old popular myth.

RE: A question for Americans????

It's no secret that corporate America has done a lot of despicable, exploitive, manipulative things. The first obstacles new politicians usually come up against are the boardrooms, and as a body they're far more powerful than the government, at any level. They have a history of ruining the environment and not cleaning up after themselves. Many books have been written on the subject, and to date, little to nothing has been done.

Some psychologist and sociologist friends of mine wrote a book on sociopathy in corporate America. Their starting point was research by other writers on the subject of sociopaths in corporate New York and a few other US cities. Their findings are truly horrifying. CEOs are routinely found to have sociopathic tendencies that extend beyond the workplace. In another thread we were discussing rich people who think it's a lark to eat and kill endangered species. These are the very people we were talking about.

These people have no conscience, no sense of guilt or remorse, can only think in terms of themselves and what they want, their greed knows no bounds, and sating their greed is pretty much all they're about. That, any they'll walk over anyone to get what they want- the more resistance they meet the more they like the challenge of crushing it.

RE: A question for Americans????

The buses really aren't as good as they used to be. The seats are crammed together so there's not enough room, they don't recline enough, and when they do, you're crushing the knees of the person behind you. Plus the synthetic fabric, though durable, is hot, uncomfortable, crappy stuff- like wearing a polyester shirt.

I personally can't stand the new hermetically-sealed, air-conditioned buses. Hot or not, I want the windows wide OPEN in the Summer.

RE: A question for Americans????

Trains are Diesel-electric, Conrad, which is the same idea as the new hybrid cars. They get MUCH better mileage.

The Diesel engines, instead of having to rev up to generate more power, run instead at a constant speed that is also the optimum operating speed for that engine, meaning it's running at peak efficiency, producing the most power while expelling the least pollutants.

The pollutants are minimised because combustion is taking place at peak efficiency. Incomplete combustion in a Diesel engine occurs either when the compression is too low to heat the air/fuel mixture sufficiently, or when more fuel is injected into the combustion chamber than there is oxygen to mix with and combine with it during the combustion process.

RE: A question for Americans????

Actually, rail was done in in the US, Canada and parts of Europe by the arrival of highways and highway systems after the Second World War. The Trans-Canada Highway here in Canada wasn't completed until the 1960's. The historic Route 66 in the US was started the year my dad was born, in 1933. Before and during that time, back in the 30's people travelled all over the US by rail. The guys looking for work at Chicago's stockyards got there by rail. The rail company was also a stockyard company, called the Union Stock Yard & Transit Co. It started up the year following the end of the US Civil War and continued on until its closure in 1971. When my dad worked in New York back in the 60's he got everywhere by rail. When my granddad was in the army during WWI, he got everywhere in the US by rail, from Ft Lewis in California to New York Harbour.

RE: DO WOMEN FROM ASIA AND LATIN AMERICA TREAT MEN BETTER THAN WESTERN WOMEN

I don't know about Latin-American women, but I've had girlfriends from Thailand, China, Vietnam and Japan.

A lot of guys have the perception that Asian women are docile, domesticated, petite, submissive and quiet.

While you can't make sweeping generalisations, it is true to say that there are regional tendencies that occur due to culture and upbringing.

My personal experience has been that Asian women tend to rule the household. My girlfriend from Thailand quickly took over my house, turned it upside-down, and remade it after her own image. Everything was shipshape and organised, and she asserted what to me was kind of a 19th century way of doing things.

Things ended amicably but sadly on all four counts, because all four women were very unhappy in North America, very lonely. They were used to crowded cities and markets teeming with black-haired people like themselves, standing shoulder to shoulder over baskets of dried fish and other fare, gathering the night's dinner and chatting amicably with friendly people.

I have to say that things would have worked out very well, had I gone to live in their countries, but the fear of not being able to make a living always stopped me.

RE: "PET PEEVES"....Lets get real!!

Sounds like a vinaigrette!

I'm steaming shredded carrot and rutabaga. They get mixed together and a white sauce poured on top. Going with cold, thin-sliced roast ham and Waldorf salad. grin

RE: "PET PEEVES"....Lets get real!!

You're probably talking about us guys who work outside all day!

Looky here you! When a guy works outside all day in the heat and the dust, his snot changes. That's right- it changes, taking on properties you females and by-standers got no idea of.

When you're out in the hot sun and the dust, your body produced tons and tons of snot. Not only that, but the snot gets thick and downright gnarly. When it breaks off in pieces at the back of the throat, thems you can spit out. They're what we guys call a "jelly bean".

Problem is, lots a times you get a snot that's like a long string connected to the back of yore eyeballs. So if'n you pull on it, it just keeps coming. And if you try to spit it out t'other way, you'll be horkin' and snorkin' for hours, tryin' ta git it outta there.

So millions of years ago, we done dee-veloped the natural way ta get rid of it, by takin' the line of least resistance- exhaling as hard as ya can through one nostril like a whale sendin' spray through a blow-hole!

Better out than in, to quote Shrek! grin

RE: Whats your view on the

Huh? What wedding? Where the heck is Monaco? sleep

RE: After we die, our soul ...

That's not true about sceptics. Sceptics employ the use of logic and the scientific method.

Sceptics aren't "labelled" sceptics. Being a sceptic is merely a case of a person not being merely credulous and believing things utterly without evidence.

The Veritas Laboratory you're referring to (which studies mediums) at the University of Arizona is one of two or three such organisations in all of North America. Parapsychology was popular until the last three decades. What you're omitting here is that there are only a few such institutions left. They've such themselves down across North America, systematically, because not a one of them were able to produce viable evidence- a must if they're to justify their existence.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but them's the facts.

RE: Obama’s Tripling of the National Debt

Where are you getting your "information" from? The GOP spin-doctors?

1. Obama's economic packages consisted of more than just the "Stimulus". There was also the bank bailout, automaker bailout, mortgage bailout, and a second "stimulus". The total is in the area of $2-3 Trillion.

2. The National Deficit and the National Debt are two different things. The National Deficit is the amount the US is in the red this year and the National Debt is the total amount that the government is currently behind. The current National Deficit pre-stimulus was about $1.2 Trillion and the National Debt was about $9.5 Trillion.

3. The Bush Administration inherited a National Debt of $6.5 Trillion and increased it to $9.5 Trillion over 8 years (including two wars). That comes to $375 Billion in deficit spending each year (on average).
