A Cove on Mobjack Bay

Gentle waves against an aged hull are tapping.
In the moist, dank breeze, two halyards slapping.
Spindly mast, describing swirls and arcs,
Across a violet sky.

From west to east, broken, dingy clouds are scuttling.
Around the cove, a deep silence screaming.
Despite all attempts at random, cheerful thought,
My mind is carried to you and I.

Just a few short days ago we were only meeting.
Ever since, what strange and splendid hours we've been keeping!
But, tonight there is only the moon, the stars,
And thoughts of how and why.

In this muddy bay, my brain is dreaming.
Though trees and a light on shore are reminding,
Over the horizon, on an island in the sea,
Is a lady with a golden voice,
and eyes of shimmering blue.
